Just brewed my first batch of Honey Ale(1 gallon). The yeast called for it to be activated and i followed the directions on the packet. I saw it doing a bit of a small rolling bubble in the 4oz of water it called for.

My question is once I poured it into the cooled wort I didn't see any more action. Should it be immediate or since it is in a 1 gallon carboy now does it need a bit of time to get after all of the sugars in there?

Look forward to some feedback......:mug:

never done a one gallon batch but it can take more than a day for fermentation to start. I will suggest that you have a blow of tube connected to the fermenter that emptys into a small container of sanitizer or cheap vodka. the ferment ion can be messy otherwise. Good luck!

Thanks, I have a blow off tube set up because I read horror stories while researching before starting home brewing.

Yep give it time. What temp do you have it at? The cooler the longer it will take to start up, but once I starts keep it someplace temperature stabile in the 60s if possible and dark (basement).

I have it down to 66 degrees right now. Live in SC so no basements, it's in a corner sitting in a plastic container with some water and a few ice bottles and covered in a black t-shirt

Thanks and about 11hrs later we have action!!!! I went to check the temp since my spare fridge broke and we are rocking at about 64 degrees and bubbling away!

Is it a huge deal that I cooled the fermentation too much down to 56 degrees for about 90mins says the yeast was to be between 60-72 degrees
