An aerometer is a device for measuring the density of gases, so won't even work with liquids. Did you perhaps mean alcoholmeter (or alcometer), AKA a proof tralle hydrometer? These usually have two scales one for proof (0 - 200) and one for ABV or Tralle (0 - 100). So, "75" could either be 75 proof (38.5% ABV) or 75% ABV, depending on which scale you read. If it only has one scale, then you can determine which is is by what the highest number is (at the top of the stem.)
