ive actually never really done it. is it really all that necessary to super whisk it. i just use a big spoon stir well and not to mention the dumping in of about 2 gallons of spring water on top of the wort has got to aerate pretty well i would think. all my brews have come off without a problem. just curious as to why bother with all the power tools whiskers when what ive been doing seems to work just fine.

Since you're doing a partial boil, your added top-off water puts enough oxygen into the wort. I usually shake the jugs of top-off water for a little extra aeration myself, may not be necessary but makes me feel better.

When doing a full boil, there is a lot more need for extra aeration measures as boiling drives off all the available oxygen in your wort. I think you'll find that most folks who use power wiskers, aeration stones, etc are doing full boils and need them.

Most folks doing all the extra aeration at AG brewers. When doing a full boil, the dissolved O2 boils off so extra effort is needed to reintroduce that oxygen. With a partial boil and top-off water it's not necessary to do more than give the carboy an extra shake or the bucket an extra stir.
