I posted this in the ingredients/recipe forum, and didn't get much response, so I thought the beginner folks might be able to help me out, as this is my first recipe not from a kit.

I'm ;ooking to make a hoppy wheat. Big fan of wheat, getting to be a bigger fan of hops.

What I'm looking at:

Extract
5 gallons

Start with 3 gallons,

Steep for 30m
1lb Briess Flaked Wheat
1lb Belgian Pale

Malts
6.6 lbs Briess Bavarian Wheat LME

Hops
1oz Cluster @ 60m
1oz Liberty @ 15m

Top to 5 gallons

Pitch Danstar BRY-97

Dry hop with 1oz of cascade after primary.

Accordfing to brewmaster's warehouse, that leaves me with an OG around 1.060, FG of 1.015, and an IBU around 27, and an ABV of 5.9.

That being said, wondering if I should drop some of the wheat for a bit of Pilsen or Golden Light to help the pale side of the flavors, or if those hops and the steeping of the wheat and pale should be enough. maybe add another poudn of the pale to the steeping?

First beer not from a kit, so I'm just taking a shot in the dark on this one.

Made some changes, about to order this, let me know if something doesn't look right, just looking for a general wheat with a bit more hop to it.

Extract
Briess Bavarian Wheat Liquid Extract 6#
Briess Golden Light Liquid Extract 1#

Extract
Belgian Pale Ale 1#
Briess Flaked Wheat 1#

Hops
Cascade Pellets 1 oz @ 45 mins
Columbus Pellets .5 oz @ 20 mins
Nelson Sauvin, NZ Pellets 1 oz @ Dry Hop

SAFALE US-05 American Ale

Brewmasters says that's 1.063 OG, 1.016 FG, 31.7 IBU, 4.7 SRM, and about 6.17 ABV.

Anything look wrong with that? I know the heavier body is a bit past style, but the IBU and wheat flavors are what I'm concerned more about.

I am a total noob, and only use extracts, but I'll share this:
My first 5 gal batch was Northern Brewer "American Wheat Beer" (they didn't call it ale). You mentioned hops, and this worked out pleasingly for me. I had columbus hops on hand, and used them.
The original recipe called for:

1 oz. willamette 60
1 oz. cascade 15

I used:
1 oz. columbus 60
1 oz. willamette 45
1 oz. cascade 15
1 oz. columbus 5

No science behind it, or alpha acids, or ibu's or anything.
I had them, and I used them.
The next time I do that beer, I'm using the same hop schedule, and dry hop it as well.
:mug:

I've been looking to do a hoppier wheat as well. My first brew was Brewer's Best Pale Wheat and it's insanely easy to drink, but I'm looking for something a bit hoppier.

Any update on this? I'm curious how it turned out. I'd like to make an 80 acre clone myself. It's quite delicious.
