advice on a LME?

im going to be brewing a APA for my first batch. I was wondering what would be a good LME to use on this link below. Anybody use the Northern Brewer malt syrup? if so, what one would be good for an APA? i was originally gonna go with 2 cans of Muntons light malt syrup. You can get a 6 lb jug of the Northern Brewer for cheaper though, any advice?

For an APA you're going to want to keep things light, so if you are looking at the NB extracts I'd go with the Organic Light. Not sure why that is the only one that is "organic", but whatever. You probably won't notice much difference as the real price difference comes from packaging as NB can store their extract in bulk and then just put them into plastic jugs in the size needed.

Northern Brewer Gold is essentially a light malt extract syrup.

I've used Northern Brewer's extract quite a few times with great results. You can't go wrong with their extracts, IMO.

Good to know, thanks. It's just interesting how they throw in one organic and it happens to be light, yet there isn't even a regular light option. But if gold is also light, then that's an even cheaper option.

If your going for an extra-light extract, Pilsen would be the way to go. Gold is great for an APA in my opinion, but if color is a concern (in a partial boil for example) pilsen would work fine.

What they said. Gold is around 6 or 8°L, Pilsen is around 2°L. I've used both, but I use Pilsen most regularly from NB, it's great stuff.

(Note, I was worried about DMS production due to the pilsner malts in the LME, and as a result did 90 minute boils with the Pilsen....but then I learned that since LME is processed already, there is no risk of DMS production, so I scaled back to 60 min boils)
