I finished brewing and pitching early this morning and delirious from sleep deprivation. I realized this afternoon I didn't add back enough water to bring it up to a five gallon batch. Its got a krausen already and is bubbling nice, can I add some water to bring it up or should I not poke the bear?

asking if you 'should' mwh... you will get as many different answers as there are brewers on hbt.

Asking if you could? well yes you can.. The starting gravity of the beer changes the partial pressure on the yeast. So if there is a lot of water missing, you can actually get a different brew/ferment based on the gravity of the beer. Anyhow you can add more water if you want. IF it is significantly short, I'd probably do it, depending on my goals - it might be an interesting test, if you frequently make the beer.
