So today I brewed a blind pig clone. Brew day went well as usual. I over measured on my yeast nutrient. Was supposed to add 1/2 tsp well I added 2 tsp. I'm not too worried about it I just want some insight. Thanks

You have two options here:
  • Quickly brew another double batch and mix them together to correctly dilute the yeast nutrient.
  • RDWHAHB. :mug:

Chill. "Relax. Don't Worry. Have A Home Brew."
The classic HBT response to any potential angst :)

The double-secret is yeast nutrient isn't really a necessary item in brewing.
Think about it - folks brewed beer for thousands of years without a tablespoon of "yeast nutrient".
And still do.

RDWHAHB indeed..

Cheers! ;)

I think the main thing to be concerned with is the flavor or aroma the nutrient imparts. Whenever I rehydrate my Wyeast nutrient, it smells like ammonia. Don't know about yours. Wouldn't want that in my beer.

Honestly, you'll probably be fine. I don't think the yeast will "overeat" the nutrient, so what isn't needed would be left alone by the little guys, or even be consumed during the cleanup phase at the end of fermentation. Heck, most of what the nutrient consists of is dead yeast cells that have been raised in a nutrient-rich environment.

I wouldn't worry about it. You should be alright.

I never knew you had to rehydrate the nutrient. I just put it right in the boil kettle dry.

I don't think it's absolutely necessary. My little vial of it says "Directions: Dissolve nutrient in warm water. Add to kettle 10 minutes before end of boil." so that's what I do.

I just dip a pyrex measuring cup in the boil to get some wort and hydrate it in that for 5 minutes or so. Again, I don't think it's totally necessary.
