Need some ideas on an accurater thermometer for all grain brewing. One to check the mash, and heat up water. I have one glass with mecury and two digitals. The digitals read about 5 -7 degrees warmer than the glass themometer.

I have one of those. Mine was way off. I'm sure cheap Thermos are hit and miss but the one that matched my Themapen was an Acu.Rite model 993. I still use it for my smoker.

That one worked perfectly for me, too! It lasted about 5 years, but I dropped it one too many times. I think it was under $20 besides, and it has a long cord so you can close your MLT and leave it out and see at a glance what the temp was.

The other nice thing about the one lschiavo showed was that it has an alarm. So, when you're at your HLT temperature, it will beep. Pretty great for people like me who walk away while heating up the sparge water!

Mercury thermometer should be pretty good(much more accurate then most current alcohol ones atleast)
More important then having an accurate termometer is to find out how far off it is

Now i kinda doubt you have a mercury termometer(how carefull you must have been to store it all these years)

Yes. But how far off at what temp? Boiling and freezing temps can be right on but mash temps can be off by 10 degrees according to my experience.
