Hey all. I have over 100 batches under my belt and today I forgot to move my steeping grains! The wort came to a boil for maybe a minute or so before I realized it and removed them. The beer is an extract ESB, so I am thinking I may be fine since the beer is bitter already....maybe it will mask my mistake. Anyone have any experience with this mistake?

Thanks for your comments!

Some recipes will call for you to put the steeping grains in and then heat the water until it boils before you remove them. I don't think you have any problem.

You probably don't have a problem, unless the pH of the wort at the start of boil was 6.0 or greater. Your chances are better if your water is low alkalinity (usually correlates with low hardness.)

If you don't taste astringency in the cooled wort, then you are good to go, and can stop worrying.

Brew on :mug:
