I am a new brewer and have been having fun with this since last November. On my current recipe, I wanted a malty brown ale so I only used 1 ounce German Hallertau pellets at 30 minutes and 1 ounce German Hallertau at the last 5 minutes. Now the way I figure the AAU to IBU conversion, I should have about 16 IBU but when I plug my recipe into Hopville Beercalculus, it shows 8.9 IBU. What am I missing?
1 ounce 3.5 AAU x .21 = .735
1 ounce 3.5 AAU x .10 = .350
total = 1.087
1.087/5 gallon = .2174
.2174 / .01335 = 16 IBU
Any insight would be appreciated.
