I thought maybe it was U.P. for Union Pacific but I know the U.P. doesnt extend as far as Michigan. I also didnt know Michigan even has a peninsula. I better get out my map of the USA. Yup, take a look at a map. We ARE surrounded by water, both the Upper and Lower peninsulas.
