70 qt maxcold cube

I recently inherited a 70 quart wheeled maxcold cube cooler. I am wondering what I should do with it...

I would like to upgrade my MLT, as I currently only have a 5 gal and my bigger grain bills suffer. The spigot sits at an angle in the 70quart though and I would need to figure something out or drill another hole in it.

It seems like most people on here like to use this type of cooler for a "redneck lagerator"... I don't do a ton of lagering, but this might also be a possibility.

What have ya'll done with yours?

We have one that is our mash tun - using the SS braid in it and I have been very impressed so far. I think we have 5 or 6 batches done in it so far.

What kind of fittings did you use to get the braid to lay flat on the bottom? I would also like to use a braid (possibly 2 in a "T" configuration) but am worried about dead space...

used the standard fittings for the hose braid - barb and ball valve. I think it was Revy who had the great idea, I left an inch long piece of the inner tubing on the one end to help me attach it to the barb and to make sure it didn't fold down and crease itself so badly. Used a long braid and put a nut on the other end to weigh it down. Works like a charm.

If you already keg your beer and have a 3 gal corny keg then I would turn it into a rolling kegerator. All you'll need to add is a shaft, faucet, hoses, handle and then use your existing co2 tank and regulator. All of that can be added for less than $50. If not, mash tun.

+1. I just got one and am in the process of rigging it up with solid foam insulation. Got the idea from Yooperbrew's gallery.

i use one for a mash tun. i put a ball valve on it with a nipple going through the existing hole and use a cpvc female adapter with a street 90 to connect it to the manifold
