6.5gallon carboy bung problems

Does anyone else have trouble keeping these carboy bungs in place in a 6.5 g carboy. Mine keeps popping up. Worried my pumpkin batch might be infected

Yes. had to duct tape it/bottle to keep it in place.

Yes. Those are crap. A solid rubber one or the orange cap does the trick for me. I use that one for my PET carboy without issue.

Yes, mine likes to work its way out too. I gave up on mine and went with something else.

I gave up on those things and just use carboy caps now. IF I'm feeling worried about the seal I secure it with a worm clamp.

That's a good idea, don't know why that never occurred to me... Or use a wire hanger.

Copper is easier to work with because it is more malleable.

ive found once they stay in place for a whole fermentation they taper in from being in the neck a bit. From then on, they work perfectly. Once or twice ive had to use duct tape to keep a new one in place for 2-3 hours. Once the starsan on it dries, it works fine and stays put

Some bungs are just a little tighter than others. I prefer the tighter bung. I find it has a much better mouthfeel. My advice, keep it tight.

This would work too. I might try this if I find a loose bung in my rotation.

I had that problem when I was using starsan on my bung cover. Now I have a little bit of vodka that I'll put my bung cover in before I put it on the carboy. The vodka helps keep things from slipping around too much.

A bubbler can go in the short wide one during fermentation. Afterwards the racking cane goes in there while the longer skinnier one is for venting and to kick start the siphon process by blowing in it.
