6.5# LME in recipe, 3.3# cans

I'm getting ready to do my first beer. I'm doing an extract recipe (IPA) built from scratch. I've got it all ironed out and ready to go. But I am having a newbie issue. I want to use 6.5# LME. As you all know, most come in 3.3# cans. So...do I just use two of them and instead use 6.6# LME? I haven't plugged those values into a calculator yet to see how much that extra 0.1 will affect my values. If it won't affect them much I'll just do 6.6 for convenience. But, if it will skew my values too much, any advice? Thanks.
 
Absolutely just do the 6.6#s. It's also nearly impossible to get every single bit out of the cans so I would bet you'll actually end up with 6.5 anyways.

It looks like the difference between 6.6 and 6.5 is less than .001 gravity points which would be impossible to taste in a finished product.
 
Use both cans. You're good.

If you wanted you could pour off 45g of LME into a glass and pour in the rest but I wouldn't bother. It's such a tiny extra amount of fermentables at to make minimal difference. It will be the same beer.

Heck if you don't rinse the cans of LME well you'll probably lose more than 45g that way.
 
Fantastic! Thanks for the sound advice everyone. Looking forward to finally kicking off this journey I started years ago. Going to a big bottle share Saturday morning, then brewing that afternoon. Gonna be a big beer weekend!

Ha! I know, it's sad. I was a long time lurker. I'm kind of OCD about new hobbies/projects. I research and read and learn for months and then life sort of gets in the way. But now it's finally go time!

ETA: I want about 5 beers you have brewed or are currently brewing. Save me one of those Jades for the next time I'm up your way! Love Jade and have been wanting to try a home version. It's on my list of things to try once I get some brews under my belt.

I am half the same way. That being said I also woke up one day and thought, "hey, it would be pretty cool to brew beer today." and I went and bought what I needed to brew. That was quickly followed by stacks of books and obsessive research, but it was cool to just jump in with no hesitation. It made my first batch less stressful since I didn't know what could go wrong haha.

I'm happy to share any of my recipes or tips with you! The Jade turned out great, but needs a tiny bit of tweaking to be a true clone. It is on my list of rebrews because I only have a couple bottles left. They just started bottling it in 12 oz bottles for sixers so I may need to pick up a few of those for continued research purposes.

Damn, didn't realize they were bottling in 12 oz now. Thanks for the heads up, I'll be on the look out.

Yeah, this is exactly what I would recommend. I'm never able to get everything out anyway!
