5500W for 5 gal batch

Do I have to worry about this scorching? I will be using a PID to control it, so I would imagine not, but I searched and could not find a ton on this topic. Thanks guys!

The bigger question is the density. If you use the Ultra Low-Watt Denisity elements most folks are using, it doesn't get hot enough to cause a problem. If you use a compact, high denisty one, you may get scorching - I wouldn't know, but it wouldn't be a good idea to find out.

5500W is no problem though with the ULWD

I've been using LWD elements also w/o problems.

Make sure the pid has manual mode to pwm the power to the element during the boil. You will probably be around 60% power to maintain the boil.
