hi i'm new here, so i'm on my 4th brew i think it is now using beer kits.
bit about my brewing history:
i've had problems in the past with trying to carbonate the beer using a youngs pressure barrel (absolutely rubbish). first problem was that the cap it came with leaked c02 so even after leaving over a month it wasn't right. so i bought a cap that uses the c02 capsules and even after leaving it a month it didn't carbonate very well. it would come out with a head and look fizzy but would be flat within a minute. so tried it again but vasalined the seals, it carbonated a little better but was still disapointed. and then i ended up bottling it thinking it would keep carbonated and i also wouldn't get the yeast sediment in the bottle which is whats put me off about bottleing. came to drink it a week later and it was flat
so basically 3 brews, 3 flat beers. still drank them tho
anyway i've had it with these barrels and going to try bottling it now. i've saved up about 70 clear 500ml bottles and i've got a load of bottle caps and a capper.
I've got a geordie bitter on the go combined with the the spray malt aswell and i've got some spray malt left over from the last brew for priming.
going to check it on friday see if its ready (started it last friday)
i have some youngs beer finnings. should i add these or not? which your surposed to add the the primary fementor after your brews finished fermenting. from my understanding it clears the beer quicker but is it a bad idea seeing as i need the yeast in the wert to prime the beer in the bottle?
also when i bottle, instead of syphoning straight into the bottle with some primer can i syphon all the wert into a sterilized container (youngs barrel) mixing it with all the priming malt, and then straight away bottling it out the barrel (i got one of those bottleing tube thingy majigs) i'm just a bit worried i might be oxygenating the wort doing so.
another quick question, i took all the labels off my bottles and cleaned them out so i can stick them in the dishwasher to sanitize them but there's still glue on the bottles, do you think the glue will get inside of the bottles
once gone through the dishwasher? should i try and clean the glue off them first?
