I had an electrician install a new 240v outlet in my basement for the new ebrew rig and he installed an L14 30p. Which I didn't notice at the time, I had only asked for a 4 prong 14 30p plug. Now that I have received my 240v PID controller it has the standard 14 30p plug.

Is there an adapter or what am I missing here? Is this L plug a standard or did the electrician botch the job?

I need a beer...

Haven't found exactly the needed item but here's the idea. I think that's an RV or welding style?? You need the dead opposite of this obviously.

Another option is to cut out the wires and make your own. I've looked all over... can't find what you need but here are the designation.

It's a female 14-30p to male 14-30 is what's needed. Good luck.

240 comes in a few different flavors. You could either swap the out let or the plug.

Former electricians advice:
Double then triple check the power is off and don't lick the shiny parts

I'd think the locking plug would be standard and more desirable to have, but you can easily get an adapter off Amazon easily and be in business in no time.

What did the work contract say? 14-30R or L14-30R? If he made the mistake, call back. if you messed up, just get a 14-30r box mount receptacle and spend 10 minutes wiring it in.

You have L14-30R (receptacal), you just need an L14-30P(plug) to go in it.

Easiest would be to change the plug on the wire but as Bobby_M said the way it comes is nicer. So I would change the receptacle. Not too much harder - but as said double then triple check that the power is off!

Switch out the receptacle. If your not comfortable with diy electrical work then call the electrician and explain the situation. Offer to pay for the new receptacle and he can keep the old receptacle. Shouldn’t take more than 10 min to swap. Receptacle is only $10 at Home Depot.

I think it comes down to whether you want a twist lock or a push type plug. Either is easy to install. If the electrician put in the wrong receptacle, you should ask him to correct it. If it was undefined, you still may be able to get him to replace it with the 14-30 receptacle.
