Were you guys pissed in 2008 when Bourbon County was 13.5% ABV? Oh? You weren't into beer then? How cute.
Wow. You found bcbs in 2008? Damn.
Seriously.

I haven't had the bourbon county barleywine, but is it really that bad?
Or did some of you really find the OG that great?
Full Disclosure: I've had King Henry three times. The first was fresh (extra from Rowingbrewer, didn't even know what it was, crushed it with the dentist) - I was impressed. The next two were at tastings at least a year later; meh.
At no point was King Henry worth the purchase price on the boards for me. That being, not too many things out there are worth their new buy in price anymore....#newmoneyhomies

Are you somehow implying that I give two ***** about the change in ABV in a beer from 2007/2008? You brought that up and sound like a huge dick in doing so. I couldn't care less about the ABV in any beer let alone a big ass barrel aged stout. If a 1.5% ABV change over 3 years of a barrel-aged beer affects your actual life, I have some bad news for you.
I'd be more OK with a price hike (last year already had one, in fact). I'm just irritated by the larger bottle. I will dome a pint of BCBS way less often than a 12 oz.I can't believe that people want to crucify a company for raising prices on a hot commodity. It's the American way. Happens all the time.
Is 4 more ounces really that much more, though? That's like one more mouthful.I'd be more OK with a price hike (last year already had one, in fact). I'm just irritated by the larger bottle. I will dome a pint of BCBS way less often than a 12 oz.

No. It's 4 ounces. I don't understand why people are complaining about 4 ounces.Damn, you chug BCBS often?
My wife does all the time! No. It's 4 ounces. I don't understand why people are complaining about 4 ounces.
Ounces they are making me pay extra for! And that, by themselves, carries the equivalent alcohol wallop of a 12 oz 5-6% beer.No. It's 4 ounces. I don't understand why people are complaining about 4 ounces.
This is not the kind of mob justice I would expect from the internet over a change to a niche consumer product. For shame.I hope GI burns down.
Where did Goose Island confirm such things? Even if the base were the same, you'll get very different results if you take a stout, put it in a really old barrel, age it for 2 years, then dump that out and throw a barleywine, as opposed to what they do with regular BCBS and BCBBW.The original BCBBW is very similar to King Henry, because it's the same beer recipe aged in different barrels. Not a huge fan of the second i
***IMO*** the original BCBBW is very similar to King Henry, most importantly because of the taste and also because Goose has confirmed it's the same beer recipe aged in different barrels. Never had BCBBW batch 1 or KH side by side, however. Not a huge fan of the second iteration of BCBBW or 2014 BCBS, which is why I didn't buy much of either. Ymmv.

If BCBBW is the same as King Henry, then BCBS is the same as Rare.BCBBW is a blend of BA barley wine and bcbs barrel aged barlewyine. King Henry was all Rare barrel, no blend.
No. It's 4 ounces. I don't understand why people are complaining about 4 ounces.
If BCBBW is the same as King Henry, then BCBS is the same as Rare.
Keep it up guys. You're giving the lambic thread a run for its money.
I'm not giving away my secretsDoes anyone know where to order BCBS variants online?!?!?!
If BCBBW is the same as King Henry, then BCBS is the same as Rare.
I realize Treebs was right and was agreeing with him, just adding that if BCBBW is the same as King Henry, then essentially BCBS is the same as Rare.![]()
He said it was different.
BCBS- Cook County Stout aged in whatever bourbon barrels they feel like for what used to be 180 days but is now bottled when deemed "ready"
Rare- Cook County Stout aged in Pappy 23 barrels for 2 years
King Henry- Prince Henry aged in the same barrels that held Rare
BCBBW- some Prince Henry aged in whatever bourbon barrels they feel like for an indeterminate amount of time BLENDED with some Prince Henry aged in barrels that previously held BCBS
Personally I don't understand why they would buy the extra barrels. Why not just use spent BCBS barrels for ALL the BCBBW? I'm sure that's what they started doing because it makes the most economical sense, so they must not be able to get enough bourbon flavor out of the twice used barrels. I think I just answered my own question, and hopefully yours. Thanks for playing.

Would you respond to a 30% cut in pay by stating that it's only a couple grand every month?
I was trying to point out the relative change but you're right, it's a pretty bad comparison. That is literally the worst comparison. That doesn't make any sense at all.
