As i've mentioned a few times because I'm so freaking excited about it, Mark and I are meeting up at Tired Hands Weds if anyone else wants to stop by.

I'd like to check out Tired Hands too. What time are you looking at? BNA starts around 7 I think, but we could be a little late.

Also, it sounds like several of us are not doing the Awards Banquet on Saturday. If that's the case, perhaps we can do a HBT dinner meet?

There are many food options in walkable distance, just finding the right one can be mind boggling. In case you're interested, 2 blocks north from the Marriott, Arch Street, is the center of "Chinatown" a 6 block area.

It should be an early night for me, since I'm leaving here at 4 AM (ugh) for my flight to Philly.

There are two resturants called vetinam, one is good, one is bad. I forget which one is the good one

The area was always fairly safe, but I haven't been there in the past 6 years, and things can change.
As always, be city wise! If by yourself, try to avoid handbags and behave as you know where you're going. It is always best to be with a small group or (male) companion. Although the police station is 2 blocks away, it doesn't make it safer.

Also there's a big mall (The Gallery) on Arch, between 9th and 10th.

Leaving early is always good, you get to spend the whole day at your destination. At least you're not driving.

Across the street from triumph is Eulogy. Triumph is ok. Nice building. The walk is safe-ish. I have done it.

Go to Trenton for pork roll (damned good, really!). But in Philly, scrapple & eggs FTW. :rockin: There is a breakfast joint in Reading Terminal that serves it, as do probably several dozen joints in the area. You can get some Amish-made scrapple to go in RT as well.

I have family in the Philly area as well as Trenton. When family comes up, they show their love by bringing a cooler of Habbersett scrapple and a couple of Taylor pork rolls. The local Amish scrapple is awesome but doesn't travel as well, but Habbersett is really good. Habbersett does mail order as well - frozen pork products in dry ice arriving in the mail is the BEST!

I was in Philly for a conference a couple of years ago and made a point to get to a good breakfast joint for scrapple. A couple of out-of-towners from the conference came in after I placed my order and started talking about how scrapple was to be avoided like the plague. Then my order came out and I started digging in, and one of them asked what I was eating. "Scrapple" I replied. They looked at each other, shrugged, and both ordered scrapple

We were in a hotel right in downtown, across from Reading Terminal Market. There is a diner in there, Down Home Diner I think. There must be others in the area too, but it was convenient and good.

While you're there, get a real hoagie.

Actually, when you are not actually drinking beer at the NHC, you should be at Reading Terminal eating everything in sight.

It was always explained to me that scrapple was made of the stuff that was left over after making hotdogs. Mmmmm...pig snout... Don't be afraid of scrapple; if you are any sort of breakfast gourmand you'll thank us later.

Reading terminal market is great for breakfast and lunch, but it isn't open late.

Penang in Chinatown is pretty good, serves until 1 am. Good dog bar and nodding head serve food late, but may only be more pub food, and not what you're looking for.

None of that parking crap for me...I live close enough that I'm taking the train every day. $16 each way and no hotel room expense....more money for swag.
