Harvey is tough. He's not going to get any points this year and probably won't be back until the mid-point of 2015, optimistically. That said, he was a great player last season and made the Mets games that he started must-watch games. Depends on whether you have faith that he'll recover from the surgery and the roster depth to stash him away. Most pitchers come back from Tommy John surgery throwing better and harder than pre-injury.

I know. It's definitely a tough call. If I keep him, then I am committing a DL spot to him for an entire year or more. I guess this wouldn't be a consideration if he was on some other team, and that isn't smart of me.

I'm definitely in and looking forward to it. As usual I'm not expecting to win the season, but sure would be nice to win a handful of match ups again. Need to set my keepers.

Unfortunately, I'm not in this league but wouldn't mind some advice from anyone interested in providing.

I'm in a 14 team, H2H per category, keeper. You can keep four. You just lose your first four picks. I have a difficult choice to make.

Keep four...

H. Ramirez
A. Beltre
T. Tulo
Y. Puig
M. Trumbo
Y. Cespesdes
M. Scherzer

Thanks.

I disagree. I would keep Tulo and Scherzer and MAYBE Beltre but not likely. The idea behind this is that with only 4 keepers if the rest of your league takes 4 then you get two picks where you can rate the rest of your team vs whatever else was not kept. If a lot of teams aren't keeping 4 then there should be lots of value still available. Either way it gives you the flexibility to improve with the likelihood of maintaining status quo at the very least.

What you have to ask yourself is the OBJECTIVE opinion of which of those players are guaranteed top 60 performers? Or more importantly which are in the top 4-5 at their position? You also need to look around and see who you would keep on other teams and make judgment calls based on that. If people are likely to keep a lot of 3B then keeping Beltre makes a lot more sense.

The keepers are at 7. I'm not in favor of lowering the keeper limit. If there is a consensus amongst all/majority of owners to lower it, then we can look at it.

I think 7 is good. It may be a lot, but to those of us who have been in the league for 4+ years, its something that we've worked on building long-term contending teams.

Here is the draft order:
1. Dirty South Goose Boners
2. Black Sabathias
3. Bayou Brewers
4. New England Stout Troopers
5. Malones Mustangs
6. PEI Yankees
7. Los Bastardos
8. Eff Yu Darvish
9. Bridge Town IPA Junkies
10. Lipstick City Lotharios
11. Carson Urban Achievers
12. BoSox Dave

I think I mistakenly used the end of regular season standings to determine draft order last year. This year, I used the final standings after the championship.

Great so I draft in the 12 spot two years straight despite not winning it all both years! :drunk:

More importantly I thought the discussion was to raise the keepers not lower them. Going to 9 would create SO much more intricacy to the league. Do you go all in on aging keepers? Do you try to go young to build for the future? Creates opportunities for positive trades for both people doing well towards the end of a season and for people doing poorly. Trading away an aging star for 1-2 young studs can help both teams with more keepers.

Indeed! I'm on the fence with a few of my players on whether to keep them or not. Biggest one is Matt Harvey. Do I stash him for a year? Trade him for a pick??

Two others are Gio Gonzalez and Carlos Gomez. What to do, what to do...

Please keep Harvey. I would love to see some of my competition use a keeper on a guy who won't play pretty much all year.

Yep

Ummmm you won the championship last year. Congratulations if this is new information to you.

We did discuss raising the keepers to 9, but some others said that they did not want to, and would actually prefer to lower the amount of keepers. So we'll keep them as is.

Ha. I was referring to the March 2013 draft. I was tops in 2012 regular season but lost in playoffs but drafted in the 12 slot and now was second in the regular season standings in 2013 and won it all and will draft in the 12 slot again. More amused than anything!

Sounds good on the keepers. I am going to start sending out trade proposals. Have too many keepers. Anyone that is interested should feel free to send me offers for my players for your early (8-11 round) picks or for other keepers. I am all ears and the only untouchable on my team (pre draft) is Trout.

Some deals:
Matt Moore - 8th round pick
Justin Upton - 8th round pick
Michael Wacha - 8th round pick
Jurickson Profar - 8th round pick
Johnny Cueto - 9th round pick

Dave

Almost done with trades pre-draft.

Still have a couple of keeper quality players that are available.

Feel free to make offers on:
Justin Upton
Johnny Cueto
Michael Wacha

Getting really excited for the draft!!

Dave

Spent all day researching players and making lists. Sleeting and cold. Crappy day to be outside. Watched some spring training games while researching. What a great day! I think i'm almost ready for the draft.

I wish we could go into the draft room early to tag players on a watch list. I think we could get in there an hour before the draft. I just wish I could do some work there now.

I agree...though being able to adjust one's keeper list until an hour before the draft is valuable IMO. Imagine someone gets hurt before the draft and after you have to submit keepers? That would be miserable.

As I've said a couple times, I would love access to the "pool" in advance as I like being able to pre-rank my players. However, the 5-6 hours I spent Sunday, working on who may and may not be available and creating list after list, will be just as helpful. If the room is open an hour prior to the actual draft, I should be able to pre-rank most everyone I want.

Just a few days before the draft. Othon/Carson, is Alfred in again this year? And has anyone heard from Ray (Dirty South)? Those are the only two I haven't heard from.

Gotta 5A doubleheader to call on Friday so it looks like I'm on auto draft this year....That might be a good thing for me. :)

Since this is my first draft and I am a planner, can someone give me a quick rundown of pre-draft times, etc...I think the room opens 1 hour prior to draft time at which time we get the first look at who is available. Does that sound right?

That does sound right.

You should be able to look at each team and see who is already on their team and their picks.

Draft is tomorrow night at 9pm EST. Don't forget to set/update your keepers by an hour before the draft. PEI, Bayou, Bridge Town, Lipstick City have not yet set their keepers.

It looks like Ray has set his, but I'm not sure when that was. I just emailed him and Alfred to check in with them. I have one person who is eager to take on a team if a slot opens.

Very excited! Can't wait for the regular season and Fantasy Baseball to get under way. Hoping for another strong season for both the Sox and myself!

Are we going to continue with this thread or make a new one for 2014?

Dave

Tomorrow I was planning on having oysters and drinking Helles. Fitting the fantasy draft in there may make it a Friday night that's tough to beat.

I'll make a new thread after the draft for the new season.

Was watching the Sox/Yanks game on ESPN earlier while I was at the gym. Paid attention until Cervelli's homerun.

I'm hoping that Sizemore stays healthy for them. Would love to see that guy reach his potential finally.

Sounds awesome. I'm just about tap a helles that I brewed in early February. I think it needs to lager another week. But hell (lol), I have two kegs of it, why wait?!

Do you guys do anything special for draft night? Typically, I just have a couple beers (making late round picks interesting sometimes). I'm having Sean (Los Bastardos) over for the draft. We should be good and loaded by the end of the draft.

Yeah I am hoping for 130 games out of Sizemore. I think that is the upper end of realistic.

Is there a way for us all to voice chat during the draft tomorrow? Assuming interest and computers with mics too. I think it would be fun and a good way to get to know each other better.

Dave
