I keep hearing about making 10gal batches. When I look up ten gallon carboys I can't find anything. What, where, and how do you go about making these larger batches. What do I need or do people just double up on 6.5 carboys ?
 
I have a 12 gallon conical I use for a lot of my 10 gallon batches. But lots of times I'll brew 10 gallons and split it into 2 buckets with different yeasts, or dry hop them differently once fermentation is done. I even do this with low gravity 15 gallon batches to get 3 different beers from one boil kettle.
 
Austin Home brew has a plastic 13 gallon fermenter for 60 dollars i believe. Looked like a good option.
 
Ask yourself how you'll move it first then decide if its a good idea to buy a 12g fermenter. 2 6g is perfect for reasons stated above you can use different yeasts and or dry hops essentially having 2 different beers.
 
a couple ale pales. they're easy to store, clean and fairly cheap

I personally think its easier to get the yeast out as well. I have been trying to wash as much yeast as possible, especially for 10g batches.
 
I use 2 buckets as well. Or in some cases 1 bucket and 1 carboy.

Me too. I'd love to have a conical, but I don't have a cold room or dedicated fermentation area large enough for a conical. I'm stuck with carboys and buckets. Since I can barely lift a carboy with 5 gallons in it, I always use two fermenters.
 
Two buckets for me, I brew outside so I have to be able to haul it inside, and the buckets work well.
 
1 gallon of water =8 lb, 5 gallons =40 lb (does not include malt or bucket weight) at a og of 1.040 5 gallons of wort = 41.6 lb (40*1.040) +bucket/carboy. 10 gallons would be 83.2+container. So I'm with everyone who says '5 gallons is heavy enough.' figure 5 lb bucket or 10 of glass for pale/carboy.

- although I admit I only do 5 or 6 gallons (beer or wine). I've not gone bigger than that.

right so dedicated conical on wheels and stilts would work - or a beer pump.
 
Yep seems like most of us have to move the beer at some point
I used to want a 15gal fermenter but then i carried my buckets from the fermenting space till the botteling space...

6 gallon in a fermenter is not something i would want to double
