So coming up around the end of July I will have been home brewing for a year! I started as partners with my Dad after I convinced him it would be cheaper, LOL! (I actually believed this at the time...) He was older so he was more of a financial partner but the arrangement worked for both of us!
I lost my father two months ago (started another thread about losing my brewing buddy so I'll spare the details in this one) so I did a Remembering Dad IPA. (Ripped that name off from someone else but it was perfect so thanks to who ever suggested it or posted it in the other thread) Anyways I introduced him to "craft beer" and he fell in love with IPA's so that what we tired to brew before his health forced him to lay of booze almost altogether, hence the reason the beer in his memory is an IPA.
I brewed the first batch of remembering Dad IPA on a whim with stuff I had around and it turned out to be my best beer to date. I had recently started using beer smith so this was the first beer I took really good notes on and it really paid off! I just sampled my second version of the Remembering Dad IPA to see if it was at FG and it absolutely rocks! I'll be racking to the keg tomorrow!
My point to this thread is that I am excited to start my second year of brewing on a different path. My first year was filled with trying to brew a ton of different styles with different processes. I learned a ton about brewing and actually made some decent beer. I jumped into all grain early on and have dialed in my process so this year I plan on focusing on improving recipes, improving my techniques, and start brewing great, not just good, beer.
I would like to end by saying thanks to HBT and it's community! I wouldn't be half the brewer I am today without you guys nor would my Dad have ever experienced real beer! I look forward to many more years of awesome advice from you guys!
