Seems way too low. Extract kit, pretty hard to mess up. Only thing I can think of is I couldn't find my thief so I held the corner of the "test tube" and submerged it enough to fill it up. (It was sanitized). As I took the sample the wort was sitting on 1/3 a bucket full of foam (star-san). Could this have effected my hydrometer reading? My thinking is that any foam that was in the tube would have risen to the top and not effected my reading, please let me know if I'm thinking incorrectly.

AHB - Moose Drool clone. SG = 1.051

try taking a sanitized spoon and push away a lot of the foam to the side, then sanitize the hydrometer and put it straight into the wort. Then see what it says. I think if you had sucked up some foam, it would have changed the readings, but I wouldnt think it would have changed that much, well depending on how much of a starsan/wort mix you got.

If you used top off water and it didnt mix well, alot say even if you mix well you could still get false hydrometer readings from water not mixing well with the wort.

not mixed. happens "every" time with extract. it will ferment just fine and it will be mixed properly when the yeast are done.

took a hydrometer reading, and as you guys have guessed, it did go up. I'm reading a 1.045 reading after one day of fermenting. Much happier. Thanks guys. Here I try to go all technical by taking a reading, and it screwed me up...lol. Thanks and once again, you were right !!!
