Any thoughts? I have 007 on hand so I'd prefer to use that... Is it worth the trek to LHBS for 004 in an Irish red?

I think 007 preferred Blondes and Brunettes.

I would use the WLP007 because I'm lazy and do not have a refined palette, but 004 would make a better beer.

Both would produce excellent results. 007 is probably my favorite strain, but both will give you a dry character, and 004 is obviously "irish" so it fits with the Irish red concept for what that's worth. I used 004 on my last red.

I'm planing an extract with special grains, how about your self?

The northern brew is the one I'm looking at.

.5 lbs Belgian Carmel pils
.25 lbs briess special roast
.125 Belgian biscuit
.125 English chocolate malt

6 lbs gold malt

1 oz Willamette 60 mins
1 oz us goldings 30 mins.

I'm thinking of adding some fuggle
Towards the end and maybe some roasted barely. Some of the recipes on these forms look delicious.

Thanks for everyone's input. I'll think I'll try 004 if I can make it to LHBS today...

I'm doing all-grain... good luck with yours!
