    Star San diluition for spray

    Carb stone in corny problem

    Stuck a carb stone line on the gas tube of a keg, start the psi at 2-4 but the keg lid won't seal. This is apparently because there is no head pressure to seal the gasket. Any tricks to using a carb stone on the gas line?

    Bucket lid thermowell

    I've got the thermowell tube, I've got the Ranco temp controller & fridge. Now I'd like to get that sensor into the bucket fermenter. I'm assuming a second hole in the lid would be the way to go. Anybody put a thermowell in a bucket? Morebeer sel Mo

    Fridge temp control problems

    I have an analog Johnson temp controller hooked to a used fridge. I just can't get a stable mid 60's temperature. It swings from the high 50's to low 70's. The internal thermostat is set minimum. Is the fridge "cycling" the problem? Do I need a more advanced controller?

    Now I got my weldless bulkhead and it's time to drill a 7/8in hole in the keggle. How do I sight the height of the hole?

    Kettle screen for filtering?

    So I see this thing called a "kettle screen" on the Austin Homebrew site. It's for convertng a kettle into a mash tun. But then it says to use it to filter trub. I'd like something like this to cut down on the pellet hops into the fermenter and possibly to guard against clogging a future plate...

    Been awhile since I stripped labels. Oxyclean works like a charm but I forgot how much for a 5 gal bucket. Destroyed my hands the first time I used it. Lesson learned...

    Love my aluminum pot. (also have a keggle). Is it feasible to use weldless ball valves etc on aluminum?

    Oak in a barley wine?

    It's getting near that time where I'll rack my barley wine to secondary. Toasted American oak sounds like a nice flavor addition. Anybody done this? American style BW IBU 110 FG 1.020 ABV 12.5% Dry hopping

    Aquarium heater?

    Don't know anything about aquarium heaters. Do they have to be submerged? I use a small wine fridge for the carboy. Works great in warm seasons but looking to add a touch of heat these days. I have a temp controller.

    Igloo volume report

    FWIW, my barley wine with 25 lb of grain fit into a 10gal igloo cooler with room to spare. I just did 1qt/lb, let it sit for 90 minutes and batch sparged to get 9 gal. It worked well so for 10 gal batches, igloo coolers will work for many styles

    Bottle conditioning

    One person here struck fear in my heart saying "don't bottle condition anything that's going to sit a long time! It will autolyse!" (sp). Can anybody base this on experience or is it another case of theoretical smoke? I want to avoid force carbonating if i can. It's a barley wine now fermenting

    High alcohol bottle fermentation

    Assuming my Barley Wine finishes at %12.5 abv. Im wondering if after 2 weeks in fermenters, that there is enough residual yeast to restart fermentation (with corn sugar) for bottle conditioning. Add rehydrated dry yeast? Will adding yeast start fermentation of residual sugars (+ corn sugar)...

    High Gravity yeast experience

    Just an fyi. With OG's of 1080-82, I use just ONE vial of White Labs yeast, with FG's around 1016. No need to mess with starters like all the books say. I think the key is aereration. My "secret" is using one of those cylindrical paint mixers on my cordless drill. So easy to whip up the wort...

    Making star-san with adjusted water?

    Instead of distilled water is there a way to adjust tap water for a 5 gal bucket of Star-San? It sucks buying distilled but it's the only water that will last without clouding up from high ph?
