Hi guys, So I'm brewing my first 10 gallon batch I have quite a few brews of 5 gallons over the years and decided to upgrade to 10. \ Pretty much everything that could go wrong went wrong and at every step I salvaged and found solutions. Without getting into it I ran into a situation where...

    I'm done with Bottling!

Ok, I absolutely hate bottling. In fact I have 2 beers in my basement from 2 months ago sitting in the chamber waiting to be bottled. I have an extra fridge that I can use as a Kegerator. I'm planing on having the facet come out right on the facing of the door rather than doing a fancy tower...

    Troegs Visit

Took a day trip out to Hershey, PA to visit the site where some of my favorite beers are made. I wasn't surprise of how big their operation is but it did remind me just how big a player Troegs is in the craft brew industry. We didn't do the guided tour because you have to book that months in...

Beer Tools Recipe Calculator Vs Coming up with your own

There is this really cool feature on http://www.ehow.com/list_7562418_sound-proofing-methods.html where you punch in what grains, Adjuncts, Hops and yeast you want to use and it will tell you how much to use of each. I'll give you an example below and compare it to my own recipe using guidelines...

Finally scored a half barrel keg! But...

Went on craigslist this morning and someone was giving a way a keg saying there is still beer in it. No pictures, just first come first serve. I contacted the person and he said he would put it out on the driveway for me. I have been wanting a keg to step up to the occasional 10 gallon...

    I scored a Vissani 52-Bottle Wine Cooler (I think)

Got home from HD with one of these It's a little beat up (floor model) but I want to build a light wood coffin to cover it. Install a tower (I might make an insulated one out of wood). Do any of you have this model? I have read some not so great reviews but I got it for a hundred bucks. I...

    Buying Corny Kegs

Corny kegs have gotten more expensive. I was wondering what the best options were. My LHBS has ball locks for 70 bucks. I notice pin locks were a bit cheeper. Is it worth buying pin locks and converting them to ball locks?

2 Question on Gott style converted coolers

    1. Using a Mash tun gott style cooler- why don't I see more people installing a weldless thermometer? 2. Using a Gott style cooler as a HLT and how well does it work for this purpose? I was thinking of doing this to save me money.

    4.0 frigidaire kegerator

I just got a deal on a 4.0 frigidaire kegerator for 99 bucks Now I'm wondering if it's big enough. All I see are 4.4 being used. I haven't opened it yet it's still in the box. I may go buy a couple of kegs just to say. Has anyone used a 4.0?

Hopping up a beer (poor man's hopback)

I'm interested in obtaining a hop back for the purpose of adding hop aromas to my IPAs. I know there is the hop rocket from Blichman which is the one I'd like to purchase but then I got to thinking... Taking a bunch of loose leaf hops and throwing them into the kettle after flameout. then...

    What Faucets?

I finally designed my kegerator / bar and know what I want to do. I am getting these parts little by little and I'm making a list. I want quality faucets and I was thinking of Perlick 575. There's a creamer version what styles of beer is that good for? Every? Your input is greatly appreciated.

    Took a trip to DFH

I know many of you have been there but just thought I'd share. The tour was great I have never seen so much stainless steel in my life. They had countless fermenters and bright tanks. They had just installed a grain conditioner that wets the grains before going into the crusher. They had a lot...

    2.5 gallon keg

I saw this KEG INJECTOR SYSTEM @ Williams Brewing and though this might be a good way to get into kegging. I do 5 gallon batches and though it might be nice to keg half and bottle the other of certain beers. While it may be pretty expensive It's certainly cheeper that a keezer or a...

Who uses DME or Cream X to bottle.

I used Cream x and from what I understand it has Extract. It's only been a week but I craked open a pale ale I had bottled and it sounded carbed up. I tasted it and it tasted good but had a strong DME extract smell. I wonder if this goes away?

Trying to put together a brewstand of some sorts

I'm trying to make brewing more comfortable and decided to use and shelf I had and convert it to a brew stand. Currently I brew 5 gallons. I figure I would add heavy duty wheels, replace the wood with diamond plate sheets, right now I don't have a HLT but was thinking of either getting one and...

I forgot to take a reading but did so only seconds after pitching yeast. The reading was supposed to be 1:105 and instead I got...
