    Wyeast 1084 experience?

I pitched a 1 liter into my oatmeal stout this morning. Its at about 66F and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this strain. If so what end of the 62-72 range would be most appropriate for this type of brew? Thanks!

    How is AHBS's oatmeal stout?

I ordered the samuel smith oatmeal clone from AHBS as that is my favorite stout. I am brewing it in two days and was curious if anyone has made it, and how did it turn out?

When does beer stop tasting "green"?

I brewed a SNPA clone 17 days ago and it has been in the secondary for 3 of those 17. The color is spot on already and it is still clearing, I pulled a sample tonight to test and it just tastes kind of bland. I dont really notice the hops in the flavor or aroma. Does the carbonation and...

remnants of one-step in my beer

I racked my pale ale to secondary about 3 days ago, and I think I can see little crystals of onestep floating in it. As well, there is some whitish streaks on the inside going into the beer that look like it dried into it. It says no rinse, so I shook up the carboy real well and drained as...

Is all grain ALOT better than extract?

I have been brewing extract with steeping grains recipes and always pay a little extra to get quality ingredients. I am very intrigued by all grain brewing as it seems like the traditional way to experience brewing. I read the all grain section in Papazians book and it just seems so...

I would like to do a 5gallon extract version of this with steeping grains as well. I have searched alot on the web, but cant find any confirmed great clones. Since I know the guys on here know their stuff, can anyone recommend me one? Thanks!

    racking to secondary problem!

I just racked my SNPA clone to a secondary to clear for 5 days or so before bottling as the yeast was so active during the ferment, the inside looked like a war zone. I am getting major bubbles into my siphon hose from my auto-siphon, and think the hose isnt sealing enough onto the racking...

    Wyeast 1056 confusing me

I made a sierra pale clone with this and it has been in the primary for 12 days at 66-70F, and there is no activity in the airlock. There is a very thin cake on the bottom of the carboy, but alot of viscous/bubbly yeast on the surface. The ferment was extremely active and looked like a big...

    LHBS ever piss you off?

My LHBS is about a 40min ride from my house. I went there to get a 5gal carboy, stopper, and 3pc airlock the other day as I need to rack my boston lager clone to secondary, and am one down. Today I get my bucket of one step together, all my parts in there, etc. Break out the carboy fill...

    Tasted fermenting lager, few questions

I made a sam adams boston lager clone and it has been in the primary at 50-54F for about 16 days. There are a few clumps and some bubbles on the surface still and I took my first reading today. It came in at about 1.028-1.030 and the beer was at 52F. I think with temp differential it makes it...

    Sanyo 4912 interior light question

I have been using this fridge for a lagerator and have had a boston lager clone in there slowly fermenting for about 2 weeks. When I have been taking peeks inside I have noticed the light only comes on when my exterior temp control starts the fridge up to cool. Does this mean the light is...

What do you use for weighing ingredients?

I still brew 5gal extract batches and am doing a new one that requires 5.5lbs of LME. I have two cans of muntons and together they weigh 6.6lbs so I need to weight out an amount for the recipe. As well, if I get some bulk hops in the future I would like to be able to weight them out for...

Wyeast starter tomorrow afternoon, smack today?

This will be my first time using a Wyeast smack pack WLP001. I read the starter guide on mr. malty I found by searching the forum here. I am just not sure when to take the pack out of the fridge and smack it. I plan on making the starter tomorrow afternoon, so if I take it out now and...

    Older hops hurt final product?

My last batch I used some whole hops that were rather dry and clumped up from my LHBS. They also had some discoloration on the leaves much like lettuce that is a little past its date. Can hops in this condition lend off flavors into the beer?
