    WLP400 Slow go

Nah this is not a bad thing. Mine did end up finishing at 1.008 after a total of 10 days, but it was the first time I actually checked it. Prior to that it was still bubbling but I cannot confirm that it was fermenting or if it was just letting out CO2 and had been sitting at 1.008 for a few...

    WLP400 Slow go

I have had a wit fermenting with wlp 400 for over a week now, every time I give the primary a swirl she bubbles for another day. It is about time I take a gravity reading, however.

How much yeast for a stout?

I have used Notty in a stout before and it tasted quite fine. But I do prefer S04 for a stout. I would recommend just getting a second pack and using the Notty for something else

    Dry Hop (keg question)

No this wont make the beer flat. Just disconnect the gas or turn it off, then bleed off the pressure. Toss in your sanitized hop bag and close it back up, then turn the gas back on to the same psi it was prior!

Running Temp Probe Into Chest Freezer Fermentation Chamber

I would leave the drain intact and either run the probe through the lid or through the compressor hump. You never know when you'll get a mess from a fermenter airlock or blow off tube falling out or getting clogged. A drain would contain the mess. Just my opinion though, I guess I am a bit...

Beer shooting out of gas quick disconnect??

Your problem probably is that you filled the keg too far up - there is a short tube that dips down for the gas in, and if the beer level is above that you get a stream o beer! But... even though the posts are on the correct sides, you didn't accidentally put the dip tube on the gas side, did you?

    Pond Pump for IC

I was born in Manheim and all my family lives in Lancaster or Lititz! As for your original question I picked up a 1400 GPH pump from Harbor Freight for $60 and it works like a charm. The 3/8" copper seems to restrict the flow so I was planning to try making an IC with 1/2" copper since the pump...

    Burner BTUs?

I use the Bayou Classic SQ14 which is a 55,000 BTU burner and I was able to bring 10 gallons of wort to boil in about 30-45 minutes yesterday. Here is the burner on amazon.com, it is pretty nice and doesn't consume too much propane. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009JXYQ4/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

    Poor manifold drainage

Btw, that is exactly what the problem was, I put a hose on and it drained much faster and further down. It wasn't sitting on a level table, so there was still 16 oz remaining of water that was sitting all at one side of the cooler. I'll try to find a more level spot for the mash tun for my next...

    Poor manifold drainage

Thanks Ohio-Ed, it didn't even occur to me to have a hose attached. I'm going to run another test and see if this fixes my problem. I am using 1/2" copper piping for the manifold and 1/2" hose on the other end of the ball valve, so I assume that is not the issue!

    Poor manifold drainage

To preface, I have only completed a single all-grain brew where I got ~60% efficiency. I have a 52 qt Igloo cooler where the bulkhead is approximately 1" off the bottom of the cooler. My first mash was using a stainless steel braid that had trouble draining the mash throughout - even when...

    Ace Hardware Sub Pump?

What size chiller do you have? I recall reading some threads on here where 500 gph was lackluster for their setup. Im only running a 50ft 3/8" chiller for now, but may possibly set up a 20-50ft prechiller for hotter months in FL..

    Ace Hardware Sub Pump?

I was at my local Ace Hardware today and I was looking at Submersible Pumps that I could use to attach to my wort chiller to save water. Ace Hardware has one that is 1/6 HP rated at 950GPH for $69.99 but it says it is an oil-filled motor. I had a few questions about this from people who...

    3 Month Fermentation

They will be fine. Many people here including me have left beers fermenting in buckets for 3-4 months and they have turned out fantastic beers! Drink on! :tank:
