IPA - Missed my SG - To Dry Hop???

Hey Guys, Brewed my IPA today and messed up the volumes. I brewed 15 gal instead of 13 which brought my SG to 1.054. Should have been 1.062. Other than guidelines, and no longer being a true IPA, I'm thinking about the dry hops. Thoughts on adding them, or omitting them? I'm leaning...

Wyeast 3056 Slow after initial Potassium metabisulfate

So, I bought another pack of the same yeast. Pitched it Friday afternoon. Yesterday there was a film of yeast on the surface of with some slow bubbling in the airlock, maybe 1 bubble every 10 seconds. I'll see if things speed up over the next day and grab a hygrometer reading and report...

Wyeast 3056 Slow after initial Potassium metabisulfate

Still no action... I'm starting to think the yeast pack was pushing its shelf life, as it was 4+ months old and did not swell. I'll swing over to the LHBS today and request a new pack and give it a pitch. The sister batch of the same juice with a little more sugar (both treated with...

Wyeast 3056 Slow after initial Potassium metabisulfate

Hey Guys, I added 1/4 tsp to my 6 gallons of unpasteurized cider, waited 24 hours and then threw in a slightly swollen pack of Wyeast 3056. 20 hours later there is no activity. Temps are at 69F. The Wyeast pack was dated May 15th... Any thoughts?

House IPA - Suggestions and help

Wyeast 1098 has worked well for me in the past, as its quick to get going and finishes clean. I also like WL001 and Wyeast 1028 but have used the 1098 for the above recipe and will probably keep using it.

    Belgian White, How's this looking?

Thanks for the suggestions... I may cut back a bit on the orange peel. With respect to the diastatic, how do I determine if the grain bill will support full conversion? This is new to me. Rice hulls will be used. Thanks, Bryan

Semi-Automatic HERMS System (Work in Progress)

Hey Guys, I wanted to give you all an update. I had to rework the brewery manifold, and the solenoids were not up to the task. I replace all the existing valves with motorized ball valves. The system was working wonderfully with the new valves during wet tests. That said, the system was...

Hey Guys, Anabel is here, and will be turning the key to fire up the new rig for its first formal brew session. While a little small (7lb 11oz) to help with the brewing, she was more than happy to offer up her skills and turn on the rig for it's maiden voyage. We will be brewing our house...

Semi-Automatic HERMS System (Work in Progress)

Done, done, check, and DONE! All systems go! I finsihed all my "to do" items on the brewery today, gave everything a scrubbin' with BKF, and then ran some one-step through the works to sterilize the guts. I ordered some grain and yeast and plan to brew the first batch next weekend...

    pH meter

I use a Hanna pH/TDS/EC meter for both my hydroponic and brewing hobbies. While not super cheap, the thing in GREAT! It will tell you how clean your water is (TDS), the pH, and EC. It is very easy to calibrate and holds steady for a long time before needing a re-calibrate. I love it...
