    Classification help

It’s not super bitter or hoppy, but the notes of both are definitely there. It’s light due to only using the 2-row , never had or made a smash style beer before, so it’s hard to put a finger on it. I’ve had more bitter IPAs and seemingly pale ales, but I think that’s just because it’s so light...

    Classification help

Entering a last minute local home brew competition. Never done it before. guidelines are- 2 row must be used. 1 additional malt may be used. cascade hops must be used, 1 additional hop may be used. 1 strain of yeast is allowed 1 specialty ingredient may be used. Needing to be quick, and make a...

    Brews brothers

Anyone else seen this on Netflix? It’s about 2 brothers who run a small brewery. Decent show if you don’t have too high expectations. Good to have a couple homebrews and watch something a little silly. They make a point on the show to be pretty accurate when it comes to the brewing part of it.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I do 6 ounces at whirlpool and 6 ounces on the first full day of active fermentation. I was really pleased with the results last time I made this with this hop schedule and hornindal kviek yeast

    Which yeast

Making a NEIPA tomorrow. I had London Fog planned initially, but the starter was really slow taking off, and I thought the yeast may have been too far out of date and ordered Hornindal kviek. The London fog eventually took off. Never used the kviek strain before. I know both are probably good...

Blichmann's New Entrant into Glycol Wars

Do you mean Stasis? I looked it up. It’s pre-selling for $750, which isn’t that much better, and this one the OP mentioned is geared toward bigger batches I believe. I having been looking for one, but only do 5 gallon batches. Can’t justify dropping this much coin in any at these price points

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

I have the heated jacket on my Spikes conical. If I pitch the hornindal at 95 can the jacket keep it warm enough to finish fermentation? Never tried keeping anything that warm before.

British Brown Ale Nut Brown AG

Anyone try this with a hornindal Kviek? I like the quickness of it, but didn’t know if it would leave it too dry?

    Will fermentation re-start?

I am pulling samples from the sampling port on my CF5 conical. Checked it again today, day 6, and there hasn’t really been any change since day 2. Been at 70 degrees since. It was about 1.030 or maybe 1.031 on day 2 and day 6 is about 1.030 maybe 1.029. I tasted it, and it tastes decent for a...

    Will fermentation re-start?

Measured with hydrometer, which has been verified. Didn’t taste it yet, was going to see what it tasted like next sample I pulled. This is an all grain brew.

    Will fermentation re-start?

I got it back up to temp and no noticeable activity. Pulled a sample yesterday and it was at 1.031 2 days after pitching, where OG was 1.060. I’m going to give it another few days and pull another sample. Hopefully it is still working and will get to something respectable. If not, this would be...

    Will fermentation re-start?

Brewed a porter on Saturday. Pitched my hydrated London ESB. Yesterday morning it was bubbling away and fermenting good at about 65 degrees. I bumped it up to 68 and left. Went back today and no signs of fermentation and at 61 degrees. I had forgot to plug in the heater to the strip on my...

    Dead yeast help

    Dead yeast help

Finally able to squeeze in a brew day yesterday. Made a wheat that I meant to make a month ago. When I ordered the Wyeast smack pack it was pretty blown up when I received it. I put it on the refrigerator, that was about 2 months ago. Pulled it out yesterday morning and felt all around and...

    Cocoa nibs

Thanks for the info! I have seen some places say it’s ok to add to mash and other places not to. What is your reasoning for saying not to? Oil in the nibs that kills head, or other reasons?

    Cocoa nibs

I had a brown ale at a local brewery recently with cocoa nibs. It. Was. Awesome... The smell of cocoa was there, a little roasty taste a little bitter, and overall great flavor, but not too sweet. I have a brown ale recipe (5 gallon)that would work well with this, but how can I add in the nibs...
