    sparging

Are you treating your mash and/or sparge water in any way right now?

    sparging

In addition to sugars left in the grain as RM-MN mentioned, keep in mind the pH of your sparge water and how it could affect the pH of the grain bed. I use distilled water to sparge with which, despite having a relatively high pH of 7, doesn't have any residual alkalinity. So I don't worry...

    Citra/Mosaic Bulk hops

I just ordered a pound each of Citra and Amarillo from Farmhouse Brewing Supply. I've ordered from them before and always gotten very good hops. Looks like they have Citra and Mosaic both in stock, Citra on page 1 and Mosaic on page 2. The prices aren't nearly $35 per pound either...

What temp and duration do you hopstand?

    I always do 160F for 30 minutes.

    NEIPA Clearing in Keg

Use 15% - 20% of a flaked adjunct (wheat, rye, or oats) in your grist, whirlpool or hop steep with about 1 oz/gal, and dry hop near high krausen with about 1 oz/gal. If you do those three things I guarantee your NEIPA will never clear of haze. You could use whirlflock and gelatin and such a beer...

    Replacing Tubing

I'm pretty sure food grade tubing has small enough pores that nothing can really get in there and cause a problem. As long as you're using food grade tubing and you're cleaning and sanitizing you shouldn't need to replace it unless it gets split or cut on the inside, which would provide a place...

    Alkaline Brewery Wash

It is when I'm scooping and measuring the powder that PBW irritates my nose and throat.

    PBW to Acid Rinse

Or are the deposits left when PBW is allowed to dry calcium carbonate (CaC03) ?

    PBW to Acid Rinse

This article seems to suggest that the white ring I get on my stainless equipment if I let PBW soak for too long is beer stone, is that right?

    Alkaline Brewery Wash

I just ordered some Alkaline Brewery Wash from Craft Meister to give it a try. I'm hoping it will remove the ring that PBW left in my fermenter after an overnight soak. The reviews on More Beer claim it can remove the marks left with PBW and isn't as dusty or at least doesn't bother the throat...

Whirlpool hop utilization and IBU calculations for NEIPA

In the Beersmith podcast he's mentioned that he's updating whirlpool utilization calculations in the new version. I don't know if that has been released yet. I was under the impression there is no utilization once you get below 180F or so. To try and keep things consistent no matter which...

    Trillium’s “new fermentation profile?”

I haven't had any of their stuff this year. Can anyone comment on whether there are any noticable differences in the final product? I would assume it would be a new yeast, or perhaps a yeast blend like Tree House uses, and/or a new fermentation temperature regimen.

    Robobrew silicon gasket missing.

The top screen can be used while recirculating the mash to prevent the water that is pumped on top of the grain bed from channeling. It helps make sure the water flows through the grain bed evenly and could help improve extraction efficiency.

    Robobrew silicon gasket missing.

My Robobrew v3 also didn't come with the silicon gasket for the top screen. I've only brewed with the Robobrew once. I used the top screen without the silicon gasket because in the YouTube videos that I saw people said it is really tight with the gasket and some chose not to use it. I didn't...

    Kegco Mill?

I got what is essentially the same mill from a friend used for a good price. I'm not sure how to adjust the gap setting. Do you have to loosen a screw or the wing nuts or something? Can it be adjusted to any gap in the range, or only to the labeled settings?

Cannot overcome my Hazy IPA oxidation problem!!

I never made the connection before, but I'm wondering if you might be right. I do recall that the first NEIPA I ever brewed used 1318 and was bottle conditioned. That one never turned brown, but then I tried several batches bottle conditioned with Conan and they all turned brown. That is what...

    Has anyone brewed a NEIPA?

Confirmed. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=597557 Plenty of people, myself included, have had NEIPA that looked and tasted great on bottling day turn to brown flavorless sludge after 2 weeks of bottle conditioning. I assumed it was due to O2, but someone has posited that...

    Second BIAB....scratching head...why don't more do this?

I've got a friend who is a great guy and pretty good home brewer. For whatever reason he doesn't see BIAB as all grain though. I did a few BIAB brews and shared the resulting beers with him, which he seemed to like. Then he asked if I wanted to brew with him and get an idea of what it is like...

    Why the obsession with cloning?

Who doesn't want to be able to brew a beer they know they'll like? It is one thing to get a recipe, brew it, and then see if you like the result. It is quite another thing to have an end point in mind and then bring all the necessary components and processes together to achieve that goal.
