    NEIPA with US-05?

It works better than you would think... just like mentioned above, don't use any fining agents and you'll be pleasently surprised. Made one with wlp001 recently and had people over and had lots and lots of compliments

Am I missing something with my simplistic hopping ways?

So I believe a mid-boil addition can bring something unique to the table.... to summarize my thought from above.

Am I missing something with my simplistic hopping ways?

My theory: Hops have a lot of fricken compounds in them. Some are more volatile than others. When you add a hop mid boil, you are going to volatilize the most sensitive compounds but leave behind others thus getting a different profile of compounds (i.e.: flavor profile) from that hop than if...

Nelson Sauvin Pale Ale - hop schedule questions?

Love nelson! And I second dragonlors suggestion. Alpine Nelson IPA is fing delicious in my opinion. After trying to emulate it a few times I realized its the balance that makes it so good. Nelson is a potent hop and I can say I have over done it before. Those beers were still great, but I...

    Gefilte fish IPA

In the spirit of many of the brewers here who like to add experimental ingredients to their brews, I have decided to move foreward on a concept of my own: The Gefilte Fish IPA I was thinking a citusy, lemony IPA would best compliment the fish. As for adding the jar of gefilte fish, I was...

    Infection?

if you sanitize as well as you take photos, I would say 'yes':)

No head first pour, better second

The beer in my lines goes flat. I run 5 ft, 3/16 lines and notice the lack of carbonation in half pours. Not so much in a full pour, but I like to do half pours and rotate through my 4 beers on tap. Sometimes I just run out the first couple ounces flat of beer out of the line, down it, then...

BIAB type bag for hop additions?

I do exactly what you describe with my biab bag and my basket and it works very well. The bag is big enough that utilization doesn't seem to be an issue and the basket keeps it off my heating elements. When done, I hoist my bag up on my pulley like I do for my grains, let it drain, squeeze it...

how much should a co2 refill cost?

WestAir did let me swap a 2.5 lb tank I got off craigslist (for free) for a 10lb tank for free through so that was pretty cool of them. First fill was also half off so I paid about 15 dollars for my 10 lb tank and fill! I still like and respect them a lot for that, but just can't understand why...

how much should a co2 refill cost?

For whatever reason, CO2 is not cheap in San Diego... if someone has a lead let me know! I pay 30 something for a 10lb swap at WestAir. You get a free fill after 6 fills... but still. AirGas is even more...

Haze and Clarity in Beer with Dr. Charlie Bamhforth (Beersmith podcast)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpSudGRTkeU I'm sure a lot of people have seen this already, but I thought I would post it anyway as I've seen a lot of haze discussions popping up on here recently with a lot of people wondering why their NE IPAs are turning brownish/changing color. If you are...

Stupid things the worker at the LHBS said

"Its amazing how much maltier Stone IPA used to be. My friend had an 8 yr old bottle and we had it side-by-side with a new one and the recipe has really changed over the years. Way hoppier now"

6 Beginner Beer Recipes and Styles

Hmmm.. I think plenty of us brew the styles we enjoy commercially and this is a good article for a beginner brewer interested in that. I have zero interest in brewing a potato beer or fruit beer to be honest.

What do you do to prevent oxidation?

Nothing on the hot side. Pretty much everything possible on the cold side after fermentation...

Cannot overcome my Hazy IPA oxidation problem!!

For what its worth, I keg the NEIPA recipes I have brewed and have not had the discoloration issue. I limit oxygen introduction from the point of putching yeast on (push to purged keg with co2).

Cannot overcome my Hazy IPA oxidation problem!!

My theory: I think its a well known fact that excess protein in beer can lead to instability. Oats add protein which equals that haze you see that becomes discolored sediment in your bottle. Your beer in the keg is kept cold plus its purged of oxygen, hence it stays stable. The bottles are kept...

    Increasing body through protein

Even though you stated you don't like saisons, I'd still encourage you to give belle saison or 3711 a try. They arn't like a normal saison strain. I got a lemony sort of character the couple times I tried it. Pretty clean too. You might try fermenting at a lower temp to see if you can get a...
