    Piney/Dank West Coast IPA critique:

sorry I wasn’t clear- 5-6% ABV. I would just drop the 60 minute charge entirely but it’s your beer and you can’t go wrong depending on how bitter you want it. I’m still a fan of multiple boil additions and will usually start my first addition around 15 or 20 minutes, and skip the 60 min. Good luck!

    Piney/Dank West Coast IPA critique:

Good choice of hops for dank and piney but you will want a lot more for a 5 gallon batch. How much simcoe and Idaho 7 can you get? I would recommend keeping it in 5-6% range for dank pale ale .5 oz CTZ at 30 and 15 .5oz simcoe at 15 and 0 1 oz Idaho 7, whirlpool at 160-180 degrees DH: 1 oz CTZ...

    Hill Farmstead Susan Clone

On the HF website it lists the hops in Susan as Citra, Simcoe, and Riwaka. Not sure what he uses for a bittering addition, whether warrior, hopshots or CTZ. My decision to use Apollo was based on personal preference only. The key to this beer is using only small doses of Riwaka especially in...

    West Coast IPA Recipe Feedback

Recipe looks really good but I don’t think you will get much dank using A24 Dry Hop yeast and 2:2:2 of CTZ, Amarillo and Centennial. I predict mostly fruit and citrus based on experience with similar hops and yeast. Depending on how much dank you are going for, consider purchasing an once of...

Columbus Hops - Onion like aroma?

I’ve gotten green onion from YVH Columbus pellets 2015-2017 so I stopped buying that specific hop from them. 2016 was so bad, also had a rotten vegetable aroma that I called to complain and they refunded my purchase. In general a big fan of YVH, and continue to buy from them so not putting them...

    Hop amount

From what I’ve read and in my experience, the alpha and beta acid amounts don’t correlate with a hops ability to overpower. I find that the dry hop is really where some hops will take over, and since I tend to keg hop, I can make up for that by adding an extra ounce of something else. Citra...

    Comet Columbus Apollo IPA

I actually have filled keg through the beer out and gas in QD. Don’t have a preference yet. Bought a brass connector at Home Depot to hook the CO2 tubing up to the orange carboy cap. Have fun using those hops up!

    Comet Columbus Apollo IPA

Thanks! I like the haze I get from white or flaked wheat, or in this case first time using flaked Barley, and I never use any fining agents, but don’t like it to look murky. I think it’s burned into my head from Hill Farmstead, Trillium and Treehouse. I tried skipping the late boil additions...

    Summer IPA critique requested

Looks great. I would strongly consider dry hopping this. Maybe 1 oz of Mandarina and .5 oz of Citra. Good luck

    Comet Columbus Apollo IPA

Recipe Type: All grain BIAB Batch Size: 7 gallons OG: 1.056 FG: 1.014 ABV: 5.5% IBU: 47 SRM: 6.3 Yeast: A24 Dry Hop The reason for 7 gallon batch was lack of blow off tubing. I was forced to split the batch into 2 fermenters, and wanted to increase batch size but limited by BIAB setup with 15...

    Trillium’s “new fermentation profile?”

I tried permutation 32 about a month ago- allegedly all galaxy but I didn’t taste any galaxy- just a fruit bomb mess. I remember when Congress st used to taste like current DDH Congress Street. I think trillium has previously showcased galaxy hops perfectly, but was disappointed in this new...

    Hill Farmstead Susan Clone

This beer turned out amazing, and I will credit the oxygen free transfer as the main reason. I also used a 10 inch 300 micron dry hop tube over the dip tube (had to drill hole in top of it) and that allowed me to dry hop with pellets a second time in the keg at day 10 of carbonation, without...

    Hill Farmstead Susan Clone

Thanks! I'm a big fan of Apollo, including as a bittering hop so just personal preference. My priority with this recipe was to come as close as possible to the appearance/aroma/taste as Susan, even if some of my ingredients arent a perfect match. From what I've read I think he uses columbus...

Fermentation with Omega Hothead Ale and Wyeast 1318 London Ale III

Still get pleasant fruity esters. I have had good results fermenting 68-70 first 3 days but this was the one time the temp got away from me when it shot up to 76 on temp strip so who knows how high the actual wort was. By no means was it a banana bomb though

Fermentation with Omega Hothead Ale and Wyeast 1318 London Ale III

Be prepared for some banana off flavors if you go too high with 1318. The one time I let 1318 go above 70 for an IPA in first 48 hours, it threw off a subtle but persistent banana flavor that carried over to the keg. The temp strip on better bottle was 76

Columbus IPA - need help with hops

Hop schedule looks really good but maybe switch up dry hop ratio. You will prob get more citrus without the dank that you are looking for. I would lower the Amarillo down to one ounce and increase Columbus to 1.5 or 2 ounces. There are multiple comments I think on the Heady clone thread where...

    34 Degrees Latitude Hops ("rare")

Just bought 8 ounces of J17/African Queen from Northern Brewer. Never used them before but will use them in an IPA for my next brew. Grains: 85% 2 row, 10 % white wheat, 3% Caramunich, 2 % acid malt Hops: bitter with CTZ. African Queen/CTZ/Simcoe at 10 min and whirlpool, and then drop...
