1st time AG. 12% pot. ABV!?

It was my first time doing all grain. I did 1.25 quarts of water per pound of grain. mashed at about 152 for 70min and got this: 11-12% potential alcohol by volume sounds like a lot. Did I do it right? I did biab so I didn't think I needed to sparge. Prob is that It's already been fermenting...

    Yeast & hop recommendation plz

I'll be doing my first all grain batch next weekend. It's a smash: single malt (2-row pale ale barley) and single hop. What hops should I pick up? What yeast should I pick up? Something reasonably priced would be ideal. I've seen that cascade hop pellets are popular. I know it's personal...

    Does my element look okay?

I'm not sure if this is normal. I've used it a few times. I thought I bought a SS element but I could be wrong. It sure doesn't look like SS.

    hows my bottom look ;)

false bottom that is! Okay here's the plan, and let me know if there's any objections. I'm going to get 2 stainless steel spatter screens and stack them on top of each other. Then I'm going to take SS nuts, bolts, and wide washers to prop it up. I'm thinking 6-8 legs, so there's less stress on...

Can I make this out of a keg?

How would I make this out of a keg? particularly the lid. can't figure that one out. With space being a premium it'd be nice to have a mash tun/fermenter/boil kettle hybrid.

    Hybrid mash ton-fermenter-boil kettle

is there a way to cut off the top of a keg and then seal it back up air-tight for fermenting? MY TRIPLE HYBRID IDEA: cut off the top and use it as a lid, insulate the sides so it can be used as a mash ton. make a stainless mesh basket for the grains, then (once mashing is over and grains are...

Does a "tri-clamp ferrule welding spud" exist?

Alright so bear with me here. I want to apply a ferrule to the bottom of a keg for the heating element, so i have the option to replace the element depending on whether I want to use 240 or 120. I cannot weld but I can silver solder, and I've have had success with welding spuds. I've looked...

Any recommendations similar to Makers 46?

Hi everyone. I'm new to the craft whiskeys. I'm really liking Makers 46. Can anyone recommend a another whiskey I might like for $50 or under. Thanks!!! I tried Monkey's Shoulder. It's decent I guess. Not great. Not bad though. It said barley so that sold me but not as good as makers 46.

Fridge is JUST too small for 1/2 barrel

Is there any way to make my mini-fridge just a LITTLE bit bigger so it will hold a 1/2 barrel keg?

Could you recommend a beer similar to...

Good morning, I was wondering if someone could recommend a few craft beers similar to Magic Hat #9 Pale Ale, and Fat Tire. Those are two of my favorites but I'd like to try something different. I'd also prefer it to be on the lighter side, and not too bitter. Thanks so much!

    how are extract kits made?

Just wondering. I know how all grain works and I know the process of extract brewing, but how do they condense the all grain wort into a single can of extract? or is that even how it works? Like I said just curious

    cheapest grain mill

I decided to take the AG plunge. I have my grain, no grain-mill, and minimal cash. I'm trying to look it up, but am overwhelmed by all of the info, threads, DIYs, etc. Could someone point me in the right direction? I would like the cheapest grain mill that will mill my grain. An amazon link...

What do I need to keep a keg fresh?

So I'm thinking about buying a keg of beer... but I won't be able to finish the 15.5 gallons in a day or two. What is the absolute bare minimum I need to keep it from going stale. I'm guessing I will need: a CO2 tank a special tap that accommodates a hose for CO2 Can anyone make any...

Do I need to boil immediately?

I'm trying to get my ducks in a row to take the all-grain plunge, but 1 question: Do i need to boil immediately after I mash out or can I wait a day? In other words, it it okay if, after mashing out, the wort naturally gets down to room temp (w/o a wort chiller), and then I boil the next day?

    Noobin

Am i understanding this correct: So a hot liquor tank is added to make more mash at one time. The extra keg is used to hold more liquid, then that liquid is just recirculated through the mash ton constantly sparging the grain.

How should I upgrade to all-grain

I have a hot water heater element and a simple controller (not pid), in a 5 gallon stock pot. What would be the most cost efficient way to go All Grain? There's the cooler method, but I'd like to be able to adjust/raise the heat if needed. Here's what I'm thinkin: a false bottom+pid...

What else do I need for All-Grain

I have a 5 gallon brew pot with a drain and a hot water heater element (no PID just a simple knob/SSR setup). I'm on a minimal budget, so what else do I need for brewing all-grain? Here's what I'm thinking... -I can cool wort down with some frozen pop bottles attached to my drill. -Everything...
