    Beer Storage

    I read somewhere the home brewed beer that has been bottled should not be stored laying down due to a risk of infection. Is this true? Doesn't really make sense to me.

    fermenting question.

    Blowoff??

    What causes blowoff? I brewed my first batch yesterday, an Irish Red. Been fermenting just over 24 hours. Eearlyer today I found I was having a blowoff. Luckily I caught it very early and quickly fixed up a blowoff tube and everything is fine now. Just wondering what causes a blowoff.

    steeping question

    I done my first batch today. It contained some specialty grains to steep. Per the instructions with the kit it said to steep the grains for 10 mins as the water heated up, so thats what i did.     what i do wrong?

    Just brewed my first batch of home brew, an irish red. I measured the correct amount of water but when i siphoned into my fermentation jug i only had about 4/5 of a gallon. (its a one gallon kit). Im sure i will still get decent beer but what happened to the amount of liquid?
