Mixed up my specialty grains from NB for Smashing Pumpkin & Sierra Madre PA

I brewed first thing this morning so NB wasn't open yet. Guessed that the C40 was the 'nightshade' bag and decided not to worry about it too much if I was wrong. As chickypad said, it probably wouldn't be too much difference flavor-wise. Thanks for the responses!

Mixed up my specialty grains from NB for Smashing Pumpkin & Sierra Madre PA

Thanks for the reply but the recipe only references crystal 40 or crystal 60 and the specialty grain bags that I have only say 'nightshade' and 'paramount'. Guess my post wasn't clear enough or I'm not seeing where it lists specifics.

Mixed up my specialty grains from NB for Smashing Pumpkin & Sierra Madre PA

Can someone that has either extract kit for Smashing Pumpkin or Sierra Madre Pale Ale from Northern Brewer tell me what their maillard malt specialty grains bag says on the front? When I got these 2 kits, I took all the ingredients out of the boxes and put them in the fridge. One comes with...

Chest Freezer to fit Speidel 60L Fermenter

The deep area in my Igloo chest freezer is 26 5/8 H x 15.25 D x 16 W. It fits the tall glass 6 gallon carboy easily with a lot of space around it and an inch or so above the airlock to the lid.

Chest Freezer to fit Speidel 60L Fermenter

I've been doing a little research on the same thing since I just bought a 5.1 cu ft chest freezer in hopes of fitting a 6 or 12 gallon fermentor and found a thread where a poster says that he fits 60L speidels in a 5 cu ft chest freezer. See this post...

    Pennsylvania Jaybird false bottom

I have a 15" Jaybird FB with reverse hinges, Level 1 Filtration, hole drilled in the middle that I've used twice and would be willing to sell. I thought I'd do more 10g batches in the keggle, but have been sticking with 5g batches in the Igloo due to time constraints. I can post or send a pics...

5 gallon cooler vs. 10 gallon cooler

I've used both and found that a 10g cooler works fine for a 5g batch but here is a link to a handy chart to help you with your decision. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f11/how-big-your-mash-tun-needs-123585/

    Homemade PBW Recipe

_TheTrevster_ hoping you can help me since your post is over my head . My water from the well and thru a water softener measures something like 1300 ppm on the TDS meter. If I'm using the tap water to clean, is it possible that something is binding to my equipment when I clean it...

Visiting Orlando in May - Any Breweries Worth Visiting?

If you are only able to find craft beer bars/ restaurants in downtown, look for Cigar City beers. The brewery is located in Tampa but their beers are all over and you can't go wrong with pretty much anything they brew. My favorite is the Jai Alai IPA that I get at my local grocery store within a...

    False bottom question

Hey Bobby, do you offer the upgraded elbow connector and bulkhead for people like me who have the cooler and domed false bottom already? I ditched the tiny elbow connector and just used cpvc pipe with an elbow thru the false bottom when I first got it, but yours looks like a much better...

    Temp controller on ebay

I am planning on posting this weekend (but saw this thread) my Control Products temp controller that I'm not going to use anymore since I got a Bev-Air Kegerator and just use the manual dial to set temp. It's wired for the cold side (skipped the hot side since I'm in SW FL and don't need to...

RIMS where & how to measure temp

A vacuum gauge seems like a really good idea. Thanks for posting that info, I'll be adding one to my pump for sure!

RIMS where & how to measure temp

Ok, thanks for the explanation of your process, that's a big help since this is new to me. I'll probably start with measuring the wort as it comes out of the keggle and also spot checking with my digital thermometer at the return on the top. You mentioned low and slow. I read somewhere (maybe...

RIMS where & how to measure temp

I'm setting up a keggle with my new jaybird false bottom. I'd like to direct fire and recirculate but I'm concerned about maintaining a constant mash temp. Can I run a tee fitting with the ball valve off the short leg and a 2.5 long probe analog thermometer in the end of the tee to measure the...

    Stuck Mash Again!

I have the same false bottom & it works great for me. I removed the 3/8 elbow & never used it since I didn't want to use tubing in the mash tun. Instead, I use 1/2 inch cpvc pipe from the ball valve connected to a 1/2 inch 90 degree cpvc elbow thru the center hole of the false bottom. It holds...

    Midwest Supplies

My CC company called me on July 6th with an alert of fraudulent charges to Sears.com for $700 of merchandise that was supposed to ship to Iowa or Idaho (can't remember which they said). I had an order that I placed and also a partial refund from Midwest in June. No idea if it is related to...

    Suggestions from kegging experts please??

His kegerator is a Beverage-Air BM23-B like mine, not a mini-fridge. It can be found here with dimensions available on the website: http://www.beveragefactory.com/refrigerators/beer/bm23.shtml

    Suggestions from kegging experts please??

Thanks for posting the pics, your setup looks great! I was wondering what to do with the air distributor and it looks like you found a good spot for it out of the way. I also like the shelf but may not be able to fit one since I just found a 10 lb. full CO2 on CrgsList for $70 and if I get it...

    heat shield for ball valve?

^+1 a piece of tin foil wrapped loosely around the bottom of my ball valve and sight glass/ thermometer fitting works fine for me. It doesn't look great but deflects the heat for sure.
