I think it's safe to say I spent around $1500.00. That includes some new tools I purchased to complete the project.

Thanks Lisca. The way I did the basket is more of a personal preference. I opened the holes to increase the overall flow and I have had good success with it.

If you didn't have thermal paste you could also use mineral oil.

Thermal paste is always a good idea if you aren't going to remove the probe.

I put my thermowell in the center. I didn't obsess about it. I haven't has any long cycle times.

All I know is with the BrewPi two temp sensor set up (one in thermowell and one in chamber) I get temps within less than .5°+/- of the setpoint. Maybe it will work with an exterior mounted temp probe too. All you can do is experiment with it to see what kind of results you get.

Jamil wasn't using a BrewPi set up for temperature control when he wrote that.

If you leave the temp field blank it should turn the temperature control off during that period. To make it consistently ramp you would put a starting temp one day and in the next line the day with the ending temp.

My deep freezers came with wire baskets. That made an optimal location to mount the fan. I just zip tied the fan to the basket.

A fan keeps the air from stratifying. The air temp will be the same in every corner of the fermentation chamber. Yes the BrewPi has support for the fan. If you want to use a fan you'll need to get a 4 channel relay. The fan will turn on simultaneously when the cooling or heating cycle is running.

Elkoe I like the work you've done on the BrewPi system and what you are doing here. Can this automated herms system be "dumbed down" to run an electric BIAB system?

Good find. I would easily pay the extra $8.00 if I needed them for an ongoing build. I will probably use these when I upgrade my electric BIAB rig.

I found these nice 12mm three pole aviation plugs on ebay that look like they are good quality for a great price. As a matter of fact, while I was posting this I decided to purchase some. 10 sets for $10.16 delivered. I may not get them till December but I'll have them for future projects.
