Blow-off sucked back into final beer - thoughts?

So this happened. Had my finished beer in a 5 gallon brewtech fermenter. Transferring to keg and it stopped. Lid clasps were unhooked but there must have been enough vacuum and still tight enough to stop flow. Broke the suction seal on lid and she started flowing again. But I didnt notice...

FG = 0.999 - this should be interesting

Just brewed a strong IPA that involved an Omega DIPA yeast. They did such a good job they brought me down to 0.999 in a week. Not a speck of fermentables left. Hope it has some body at all ;^) Grain bill: 13.5 lb Fawcett Pearl Malt - 12 oz Baird’s Light Carastan Malt - 12 oz White Wheat Malt

Quickly carbonate flat beer - shouldnt this work?

I had a couple growlers of beer that gor flat. Buts super yummy so wanted to recarb it. Saw a video where people were using a Soda Stream to flash carb their flat beer. But didnt want to spend $80 on a Soda Stream I would only occassionally use. So I bought a Farroday Stainless Steel...

    Hop shots are like napalm

Used my first hop shot. Leassons learned and questions. Lesson 1: dont put some on your finger and taste it. A bitter explosion that remains on your tinguq for 24 hours. Lesson 2: careful cleaning that kettle. Some gets left behind and it sticks to everything - the scrubber, the kettle...

Resusing yeast - can you use the blowoff jar?

I had had some great fermentations of late. Last one left this blowoff bounty. Pretty sure thats mainly yeast cake. I guess infection might be an issue. But sure doesn look good!

Technology never ends - last hydrometer you will ever need

Enough already ;^) Anyone seen the Plaato digital airlock/hydrometer? Touted as the last hydrometer you will ever need. Uses the CO2 release as a measure. Release of CO2 being directly proportional to the chemical reaction rate - ie. how fast the yeast works. Although I always thought...

Chest freezer fermenter issues: equipment vs. User Error?

I realize it might be user error. What some people call the ID10T (idiot) error. ;) I got a 5.5 cu Galanz chest freezer that was on sale. Combined it with the Inkbird ITC 308 wifi. For heat was using a small personal heater (Honeywell Amazon.com: Honeywell HCE100B Heat Bud Ceramic Heater...

Todays adventure in homebrewing - reaheat already cooled wort?

Miscalculated volumes and my final OG was 1.045 - aiming for 1.055, six gallons instead of 5.25. Very distracted by a family matter I forgot to check post boil gravity but after cooling to 85 degrees I finally remmebered to check it. Too low. Limited on time and didnt quite know all the...

    Post-boil Pre-yeast sample fermenting?

Hello! Took a sample from an ESB I was brewing while transferring to fermenter and before adding any yeast. Check gravity and left it on counter. HAd no foam, just lovely liquid. Next morning I get up and it looks like it was fermenting, without any yeast added. That looks like krausen

Water profile guesstimate for ESB - hedge bet on a given addditive?

I cant find a {clear} water report for my county with the values I need. And I havent received back my Ward labs water test results. Im brewing an ESB in a couple days and wondering if there is a style-safe water addition I should make or, with no real data, do nothing. I figured some beers...

20 Plate Wort Chiller - output always perfect?

Kind of new to plate chillers. In all the videos I watch its pretty much the beer goes from kettle right into fermenter. No second passes, or return to bucket to go thru chiller again. Does that mean the hot wort leaving kettle is perfectly cooled when it hits fermenter? Or is it juts close...

    Are most regulators created equal?

I have a Taprite I got from MoreBeer. I also just got a used Kegeratorthat came with this Draught Tech regulator, which feel much more substantial. Are there some brand that are top of the line? Came with Kegerator (Draught tech) From MoreBeer

Kegerator via Craigslist- crash course in appliance diagnosis?

New to me, older Danby Singlt Tap Kegerator (Model # DKC645BLS). Found it on Craigslist. Before I went to see it I asked the owners to plug it in night before to let it cool, and to put a glass of water in it, so next day I could test ambient air temp and temp of the water. When I get there...

Brew Bucket FTSs System questions: overkill bling?

A litle birdy (child) told me I might be getting an SS Brewtech Brew Bucket 7 gal FTSs System. Looks kind of cool (no pun intended). But having to get an ice cooler for the cooling fluid and pump make it seem a little more trouble than its worth. Am I wong or for that same price a cheap mini...

Recirculate from bottom? Considering this mod for Anvil Foundry....

Im thinking about using the Brewzilla whirlpool arm thru the lid of Anvil Foundry, combined with recirl pump, to recirc from the bottom of the mash. Hoping it will reduce the stirring and bottom hotspots. Thoughts? Work? Not work? No effect? +

Im having horrible luck with Anvil / Blichman quality and service. Anvil Foundry Dents replaced with worse dents....

I love the system. But have bad luck with quality so far, x 2. The first Anvil Foundry I received had severa l dents, three nice ones on the grain pipe, and another one going all the way thru the double wall. Ok, so thinks happen. Contact them and they agree, not good, and said they woudl...

Known quality mini fridges that get to that 32-40 degree range?

Was looking for one on the black friday sales. But many of the average 4.4 cu ones (Magic Chef, Danby, etc) have some reviews where people say they couldnt get it lower than 40. Suspect the average home user might not notice but homebrewers would ;^) No deals anyway on Black Friday. And...
