    Storing wort

Yah I use my own version of No chill so I'm somewhat familiar. I guess just wondering if there's a better option out there. Should I put the jug in the fridge. Just leave it in my basement. I figure it should be fine just wanted to know if someone knew of a problem. How long could Is store this...

    Storing wort

I get no chill brewing, but thats done in a bucket or carboy. I have half a gallon in a water jug. Possibly storing for up to a month. Is it possible for contamination through the walls of the milk jug? And does oxygenation affect flavor only? All i want out of this is a supply of maltose...

    Storing wort

I'm looking to start harvesting a few yeast strains I want for my upcoming brews. I just finished a Brown ale, and collected some second runnings. I boiled this down to about 1.070 (by accident), so I added some tap water to bring it down to 1.040. I poured into a gallon water jug (plastic milk...

    Brewmasters Warehouse

WOW I just put in a nice ingredient order. $85 divided into 7 recipe bags. You'd think that would take a while to package. Ordered at 2:00pm received email @ 4:00 pm that it shipped. Thanks Ed, I've always bought from you and this is why I continue. Thought you'd appreciate the feedback. By...

    Bottle Harvesting with sugar

I live within walking distance of that party store and buy beer from there all the time. My problem is the homebrew supplies are just way too expensive. A pound of 2-row is like $3.50. I know I checked out DME and I think I remember the price being like $8/lb or something. In another note they...

    Bottle Harvesting with sugar

I have a LHBS in Waterford near my house, but I'm a student at CMU so during the school year theres not much around me. Anyway thanks I'll look out for this malta goya. I guess next brew I could just take extra wort from my mash but I kinda wanted to brew an IPA with Bell's yeast next. Plus I...

    Watery Beer

The Grain I used was about 6 months old. It was from BMW and was crushed and in a sealed bag. Could this have anything to do with the taste?

    Watery Beer

I found several other threads on this topic but was hoping for a more specific answer to my problem. I brewed 2 AG batches several weeks ago, on the same day. 1 Haus PA, 1 Irish Red. 3 weeks primary, 1 week in bottles so far. I hit my OG of 1.052 and FG was 1.010 in each case. Notty yeast. Both...

    Started My First AG Batch

Also I sparge 1 extra time and boil extra time to get down to my batch size. So if I was going for 5 gals and would usually put 6.25 into the boil i may go with 6.75 and just boil an extra 30 mins or so. It all helps with efficiency. Just make a dipstick and boil to your batch size, dont worry...

    Started My First AG Batch

2 things. One put blankets over your cooler I didnt buy the best cooler so I find a bunch of blankets help. Also, I have had trouble with my mash temp ( I have about 10 AG batches done) so I heat my water to about 180, pour into cooler, then wait until it hits about 172. Then I add grain and...

Stout looks more like a brown ale

I can never tell the color of my beer in the boil pot or fermenter. Dont worry about it. Besides, who cares what it looks like, as long as it tastes good, which I'm sure it will.

    How much to prime?

Dude a bottling bucket is like $5 if that. Go to a bakery or grocery store with bakery counter and ask for an empty 5 gallon frosting bucket they'll give it to you for free. If you dont want to buy a spigot and bottling wand at least you can rack the beer into new bucket and add all priming...

Wow I am excited seeing the prices on Hopsdirect. $6.75 for willamette and cluster. $8.75 cascade. Many are under $10. Since this is gonna be my first bulk buy can I get some recommendations on what to buy. 3-4 lbs sounds about right. I want a lb each of cascade and willamette. But am having...

    What's floating in my beer?

Not really the yeast is all settled out it's just like 3 balls. I guess similar in texture to the picture. The beer smells good so I'm gonna assume it's yeast. Also, the yeast is notty. The beer is done its down to 1.010 from 1.052. Is it gonna settle out in 1.5 weeks? It's been 2 weeks and I...
