so they can sell you more kits faster before you learn the proper methods to brewing good beer. if you can make an iffy batch in 2 weeks and think its inexperience, you'll try again. thus they sold you 2 kits in 2 weeks, or you could take 5 weeks to make an iffy batch with a kit and give up...

not crazy at all, if your temperature is slightly below optimal for the yeast your using the fermentation can stretch out, the yeast taking longer to reproduce. so fermentation will continure longer. I cant gaurantee this is what caused a long active fermentation. but its a possible cause.

shipyard's "pumpkin head" is one of the best most years. last year the pumpkin head was crap. the year before last it was spectacular. this year it was great. shipyards pumpkin head is one of the best in a good season, and mediocre in an off, but that's a small brewery for you.

I was thinking 3 weeks for primary.

I'm currently brewing a raspberry hefeweizen, my question is, should I go with a long primary or should I go with a secondary fermentation? a lot of what I have been reading is leading me to think a long primary is the more appropriate route to go with the hef. what are your thoughts?
