    Keggerator Question

Could I wire this in place of the temp controller? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Digital-Temperature-Controller-Thermostat-Aquarium-120V-/320926535444?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab8b64f14

    Temperature controllers.

I have a mini fridge with an, apparently, bad temperature controller. Would the eBay aquarium temp controller be able to replace the one on my fridge? I would assume I could just plug in my fridge wires to the controller and be good to go.

    Keggerator Question

jCOSbrew: that's kinda what I was looking for. WooHokie: I'm cold crashing my IPA to help clarify it a bit before I keg. It's had three weeks in the primary.

    Keggerator Question

The irony of that is I saw a philco fridge on CL for $300. She doesn't care about appearance so much as the funds. It looks like $150 is the norm for the basic freezer on top fridge on CL. If I started keeping my co2 and corny keg in the kitchen fridge she might warm up a bit.

    Keggerator Question

Have a Magic Chef dorm fridge that I keep my keg and cobra tap in. I've had it in the garage over the summer and use it to cold crash in as well. It never seemed to get cold enough for beer but I have a 5 gallon better bottle with an IPA and a stick on thermometer. The beer has been in there...

    First All-Grain Brew

I had the LHBS crush the grains. They have a pretty nice machine so next time I'll see if they can adjust it to see if my efficiency goes up. I have Beer Alchemy on my iPhone and it's pretty awesome but unfortunately it doesn't calculate mash volumes. I don't mind busting out the calculator. I...

American Pale Ale Cascades / Orange Pale Ale

Just pitched my yeast a few minutes ago on this. My first all-grain batch. Nailed all my gravity readings:rockin: I only had 1 oz of coriander and put it in the hop bag with the orange zest. Will it hurt the flavor/aroma to remove them for fermentation? Cant wait for this one to finish!

    First All-Grain Brew

Netflyer. My kettle is a a 7.5 gallon pot so a boil-over is pretty easy. The recipe is: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f66/cascades-orange-pale-ale-84558/. Everything went very well considering that this was my first all-grain batch. I hit all my gravity readings exactly. I set the recipe up for...

    First All-Grain Brew

I made a checklist to help with my first all-grain batch. I'm a little nervous and don't want to screw anything up so hopefully the checklist will cut down on the foul-ups. Does it look like I've got the process down on the list? I'm planning on brewing tomorrow morning. Thanks in advance...

    Recipe Screw-up

I have a small problem with a recipe um…math error. I was aiming for a Bell Two hearted clone, 2.5 gallons. I hauled a$$ to the LHBS on my lunch break to pick up my ingredients. In my haste I wrote lbs where I should have written oz. And…. Instead of crystal 20 I used 120. I...

    Unbalanced Beer

My first try at all grain yielded a lower malt extraction than the recipe called but the hop addition were kept the same. I thought it would be ok but now I have an unbalance beer. Waaaay too hoppy and no malt to balance it. My question is: since this beer is kegged can I brew a quick 2.5 gallon...

    Fermenting Problem

Update, The beer turned out fine and has been consumed:drunk: No problems of skunking just me being impatient and drinking it all up before it was aged. The last few glasses were great. I now know what to expect from 04 and used it again on another 2.5 gallon BIAB batch. Love that stuff...

    Fermenting Problem

Yooper, that's exactly what I needed to hear about the 04. I just grabbed it of the shelf without any research so I had no idea it would ferment so quickly. It's been dry hopped and is cold crashing now. Should know if it's nasty in a few days. I don't have a sophisticated palette so I'm sure it...

    Fermenting Problem

I was trying to raise the temps. I didn't think about the skunking. I just pressed the lid down enough to get a few bubbles and they smelled fine. (love those late additions) I'm gonna go ahead and dry hop it and let it go a week longer. Thanks for the help guys

    Fermenting Problem

Oddly enough I'm in no hurry for this beer since the keg still has Pumpkin ale in it. I gave myself a two week fermenting window. So it's possible to have a beer finish (mostly) in two days? That just sounds impossible but I guess the hydrometer doesnt lie. I left it in a spot where it could...

    Fermenting Problem

Brewed a Pale Ale last Wednesday and pitched my US 04 yeast that night. No bubbles the next morning but no surprise. That evening it they were chowing down and I had a good stream of bubbles. I had my temps a little low since its been cool here lately and by Friday there were no more bubbles and...

    Stopping Fermemtation Early

Pumpkin Ale. I can give it another 2-3 days in the secondary. If I keg on wendsday I should be able to carb it by Friday afternoon and bottle before we leave Sat morning. I almost bought a growler just for this. May have to head to the LHBS this week and pick one up. Thanks guys!

    Stopping Fermemtation Early

Are there any potential problems with cold crashing a beer after 7 days in the primary? I'm in a bit of a hurry. I transferred to the secondary after 7 days and the FG was 1.012+. OG was 1.060 so it appears to be finished. I plan on kegging it then putting some on bottles for a camping trip next...

    High Pitching temp

I was under the impression that cooling and pitching quickly was paramount. Get some alcohol in there fast to help with contamination. I gotta get a wort chiller. This "hobby" keeps tricking me into spending more money!
