    Hop Basket

Last brew I went to a 1/2" ID hose to drain from the Kettle to Fermenter faster. Worked great till the bazooka tube screen plugged up. Found these 3" diameter Stainless Steel "NORPRO Tea Infusers" for $5.50 each at the True Value kitchen section. I will be adding hops in these and it should...

SS BrewTech Brew Bucket Conical Fermenter

I would get something with a dump valve so you can go from kettle to conical to keg. I dump the break material 8 hours after pitch and dump the yeast a couple days after fermantation stops with confirmed FG. One vessel to clean.

    Slow burner?

I get about 3 deg/minute. If I go for more the flame starts going up the sides of the 16 gallon pot.

    Why boil starters for 15mins?

I put the DME in a clean flask then pour in boiling water swirl it and cover, then start cooling after 5 minutes. 1.75 oz DME for 600 ML water

    fermentation time with starter

I went ahead and checked the gravity this morng and it was spot on at 1.010 so I tried my first yeast harvest. Will post some photos of yeast later when finished bottling. After researching I decided to wait and Cold Crash the day before kegging which will likely be 14 days after pitching. Thank...

    fermentation time with starter

Thanks again WB. I will be kegging and 2 weeks is no problem. I have watched the vent and had no bubbles for 5 minutes plus. 1) Would you harvest yeast now or wait the 2 weeks? 2) Do you Cold Crash before harvesting or after?

    Quick Lager Method *UPDATED*

Thanks Brulas. I was waiting to get some Ales stored before running Lager but this looks like I could be starting a lot sooner than expected

    fermentation time with starter

Thank you WB for the detailed response. It looks like I will be ok but still have a few questions if you have time. 1) How lonng would you wait to check final gravity before cold crash? Would you harvest this yeast or dump it due to the high fermentation temp? Should I harvest yeast before or...

    fermentation time with starter

Thanks WB, that is not as straight forward as it should be. I have a new to me used fridge for a chamber. Pitched at close to 70 deg F and noticed the fridge was not cooling so I added block ice while working on it. My fridge temps stayed close to 70 but the tape thermometer on the SS Fermentor...

    fermentation time with starter

Background: I just did my 1st starter for liquid yeast. Broke 2 Wyeast smack packs Thursday about noon and pithced the swollen paks into a 70 deg flask (cooled 1200 ML boiled water and 3.5 OZ DME) about 6 hours later. By Sunday AM I had about 1/4" to 3/8" deep yeast covering the bottom of a...

    Mash Time

Thanks. so using those recipes with the mash reduced from 2 hours to one hour should be fine?

    Mash Time

My old 1992 Dave Miller's Brewing the World's Great Beers calls for a 2 hour mash on almost all recipes. I see a lot of posts here for a 1 hour mash. Whats changed?

    Stuck mash from Hell...

I have not had to yet but always figured I could just run a hose from the tap to the mash valve and back flush to clear?

    What kettle to buy?

just got this 16 gal with valve and bazooka tube delivered for $162. It has gallon markings which I really like but the lid diesn't fit just right. If you plan to mash in it I would add the thermometer. Best deal I could find and it is a perfect size for 10 gallon batches...
