    Mash Tun Drip

I didn't use Teflon tape. I'm assuming that is a big mistake on my end

    Mash Tun Drip

    This is the leak point.

    Mash Tun Drip

Is it possible to have zero drips when making your own mash tun? I feel like if I tighten everything anymore I'm going to damage the plastic cooler. I'm using washers on both sides and a silicone gasket on the inside. Right now I have a leak that would result in losing about 1 ounce of watcher...

    Fermentation Temps

I used the manual to set it to a one degree variance. Still goes beyond that. Wasn't sure of that was normal or not. I didn't want to try really hard to get something that might not be realistic. I can be very literal at times. :)

    Fermentation Temps

I bought a temperature controller to hook up to a kegerator to hopefully control fermentation temps. My question is is 3 degrees too much fluctuation? Using the minimum settings inset it to 65 f but it will go as low as 62. Wasn't sure how much impact that would have. It would be more control...

    Thanks everyone! !

6 gal vs 6.5 Gallon Primary

I've used a bucket in the past but it doesn't have the best seal. Plus I want to see what's happening. I used a 5 gal carboy once, but it was supposed to be for a 5 gal batch. Other than the size it worked great.

6 gal vs 6.5 Gallon Primary

Trying to decide between the 6 gal carboy and the 6.5. I will be doing 5 gal batches. Is there a difference outside the increase chance of blow off? Any flavor effect? I ask bc 6 gal are cheaper and more available to me than 6.5.

    How long it too long?

It didn't taste like apples so I bottled it. Tasted kind of light which was what I expected. We will see what it tastes like in a week or 2.

    How long it too long?

It smells like apple juice. I'm assuming that is a bad thing.

    How long it too long?

My brother and I made a cream ale extract kit 6 weeks ago today. It only calls for 4 weeks of fermentation. Is 6 weeks in the primary too long? We got distracted with life and let it go a lot longer than planned. Thoughts?

    Northern Brewer Partial Mash Kits

I was wondering if anyone had experience with northern brewer partial mash kits. Did the grains come crushed or did you have to crush them yourself?

    Grain Brew Intro

Is there a good set of reference material for when an extract brewer wants to try to step up and do some grain recipes? Should you start with a partial mash? What is a 'partial' mash exactly? Just looking for a good starting point. Cheers!

    Use of Secondary

I'm not adding anything to it or reusing yeast. Sounds like it might just be sitting there for no good reason at all lol. Maybe I should just bottle?

    No Fermentation?

Fyi you were correct. Fermentation completed!!

    Use of Secondary

Just wondering what the biggest takeaway is for using two stage fermentation. What are you gaining that you would otherwise lose if you just used a primary fermentor? I have a batch in a secondary now and it's my first time using it. Wondering what difference I should look for.

    No Fermentation?

Thanks everyone. Is it safe to take a hydrometer reading right in the bucket? Or is it recommend to take out a sample?
