    Dry hop...ohhh...dry hop?!

Okay..so i've been experimenting with dry hopping (really...i'm new to it). I found it very strange the small amounts people use (in regular beers..not IPAs). I dried hopped three beers so far: 1- Cream Ale (this one is just....GREAT...yea..i made it great!) Hops for a 17 liter batch (in...

Has someone ever actually tried this ?

You would end up with an hop tea made with non alcoholic beer. Just make sure you don't add the hops past 158 F (i.e. between 140 and 158). And filter the hop debris. I use distilled water.

Brewed my first beer - chilling takes a long time

I bought an immersion chiller months ago...But honestly: i don't use it! Takes about 40 minutes to chill the wort (yea it's a crappy one), plus i spend a lot of water. So..i just go no chill route (did it before i bought the immersion chiller and really love it). As i do BIAB, i just put my...

    Using coffee in porter

I just like to get coffee flavor from malt. And chocolate too. I think getting these flavors from the real things are overrated.

    2 x 1500 elements + scorching

This just happened to me. First batch i ruin and this is probably the cause. I had a very vigorous boil (i thought it was too much) and turned off one element. Big mistake: both elements became scorched and i now have 20 L of perfectly ashy Hefeweizen fermenting away... And all just because i'm...

White sediment at the top of the bottles

Bottle krausen ring. Happens to me when there's a bit more trub in the bottle. When i use gelatin that never happens.

How would one dillute beer without inducing oxygen?

Boil the dilution water vigorously for 15 minutes then chill as fast as you can. Dilute immediately.

Refractometer reading is way off compared to hydrometer. What am I missing?

Bought a cheap ATC refractometer from China. It is spot on on every reading i make. And using a calculator it's still very accurate when reading FG. I love that thing

    Arsegan recipes

As a test, i just used google translator on Grand Cru instructions. Just use it. TIP: Read this manual carefully and prepare all materials. Only use well-cleaned material and brewing tools! Uncleaned material causes infections and undrinkable beer. BREWING THIS BEER IN 22 STEPS: 1. Immerse the...

    Yeast layers from starter

So, i made a 1L starter from some 3 month old porter slurry. Starter fermented well and was done in about 48 hours on a stir plate. After 10 hours in the fridge i can see two layers. The starter beer tasted fine for what it is. Could that top layer be DME protein? Original post...

Yeast starter has 2 different layers

So, i made a 1L starter from some 3 month old porter slurry. Starter fermented well and was done in about 48 hours on a stir plate. After 10 hours in the fridge i can see two layers just like the OP. The starter beer tasted fine for what it is. Could that top layer be DME protein?

Preventing trub from making it on the fermenter

Make a higher original gravity wort that fits your pot. Dilute with cold water to match your wanted gravity. Concentrate and dilute. And speeds cooling time.

learning lesson from older brew guy

So, other than clogging both the airlock and the blow off ( a bit of an accident), is there anything that in principle is wrong with that setup?

learning lesson from older brew guy

MMmmmmmMMMm... I wonder (hey no science background here..i'm a lawyer) if the use of both the airlock on top and the blow off below would cause some kind of pressure instability. Hence causing a siphon effect???? We need a Phd here ASAP. Edit: just subscribed the topic coz i know it's gonna...
