    A Lager version of Saf-05?

Thanks. Still doing 1 gal batches, so one should work (even a 1/2) My LHBS has it too.

    A Lager version of Saf-05?

Just looking for a clean/easy near do-all dry lager yeast (not too many choices) Does it exist? Now that the cooler temps are here I'd figure I'd try a couple lagers.

Brew Masters on Discovery w/ Sam Calagione

Yeah, a lotta hate, and its only been *one* episode! If it is all about DF, then yeah its another American Choppers (Senior needs a baseball bat upside his empty head numerous times, and Jr. is a spoiled little whinny brat, though talented) But I know there is a producer stirring the s**t for...

    Shifted gravities?

I did a couple BIAB's and the OG was higher then I expected 1060 (guess I got better eff then I expected) and final was 1020, which is about 10 high on both ends. Anything to be concerned about or try to fix next round? Just run of the mill APAs. (no I'm not scared and about to dump the...

Don't go to Buffalo Wild Wings

The couple I've been to around the country have all had a good selection of beers. Wings are good? You have to try to make them bad. The menu and food have never been good enough to compel me to return.

Dry hopping in primary or secondary?

Just the thread I was searching for! Thanks guys! I'm still just doing 1 gal batches, so with racking I lose a beer. (can get up to 8 beers from a well flocculated 1 gal batch without racking) I'll be just tossing in the dry hops after primary finishes and forget about racking.

    Hops and color

I understand extract being darker, but I'm talking about hops and water; before the extract addition

    Hops and color

hehehhehe. I can see using leaves over pellets giving a more clear beer.

    Hops and color

Yuck! Sometimes science can be over done. Where's the art in that? (I find brewing the cross between cooking and baking. With baking its measure, mix and pray. Cooking is adjust along the way. Brewing is the combo of the two.)

    Wheat Q and time

I've read that wheats finish quick. Now is that because of the wheat or the yeast? (just did a extract wheat with Safale US-05 and wondering) (hey whats with the gun add at the top? I though gunpowder and alcohol don't mix. I do dig both, no poltical slant, just the humor of it...

    Hops and color

I did a quick wheat extract beer last week or there abouts. I did a late addition extract, so the hops (pellets) were in for the full 60 minutes. Using just the hops, the color was rather dark at time for extract. How does Budwieser make such a pale beer?

Possibly a quarterly buy? (or other increment)

What Sanitisers and Cleaners are used.

just a food for thought: I was listening to a BN podcast on cleaning/sanitizing and they said cleaning was more important. They mentioned that a base cleaner (high pH) takes care of inorganics while acidic (low pH) takes care of the organics. (i may have them swapped) Since You state: "I...

    newbie Q: whats a double?

Opened a bigger can of worms then thought! I feel the bjcp site *needs* to be expanded (or a similar site) Trying to go from beer X to beer Y is a bit tough. (think a coors light drinker wants to brew a chocolate stout. And NO I don't drink coors light; I'd rather go thirsty.) The commercial...

    newbie Q: whats a double?

LOL!! YES, 'dem too! Still trying to get the styles down and figuring out what I like. ( I was gonna do the funky spellings but passed since I, mistakenly, figured them to be one in the same.) (and on a humorous side, for you double IPA guys, why not just chew a hop leaf/bine?)

    newbie Q: whats a double?

I've been floating this forum (and the beer tools' since I own the software) for a bit. But what makes a double or triple a double/triple? I've done a quick search (net), and it seems related to hops (though ABV seems to be higher, around the 2x range too) Is there a rule of thumb? Does it...

Raleigh Area Group Grain Buy - Round 2

Hey, remember me for next round. Is there an off-list e-mail? I'm not on here all that often (I go in spurts)

    BIAB, high OG?

Actually I was *just* about to edit my post. I had Beer Tools set to 65%. (found a small calc that showed I got 82%) When I changed Beer Tools to the 82%, the OG #s fell in range. If BIAB is this good with efficiency, I think I'm gonna stick with it. Its a bit quicker, less to clean up...

    BIAB, high OG?

I just brewed a 1 gal batch of an APA via BIAB. Full water volume to strike temp, dough in, mash, drain, boil. (added about 1-2 cups water at boil start, level was a bit low) I'm using a refractometer for all readings (though also used a hydrometer after boil to compare) The pre boil (with...
