    Red Ale

Today the temp of the beer is around 75F. not my ideal but still decent. In the hot state of TX it is even more difficult to keep the temp under control. Well the good news is I plan to bring it to a cold crash by using a floor fan and a window unit. This will allow the beer to I think to bring...

    Red Ale

Yea the color on mine was a little lighter then I wanted but still had a red/amber hue. I am not sure if I can send that to you through the mail. I have never attempted but I remember reading the PO one day that sending any package containing alcohol is prohibited, then again that was the PO not...

    ravings of a novice

It is a little odd. He keeps wanting to buy the beer as I continue to say I can't sell it to him. Eventually he got that and the legalities behind why I say I can't sell it. In the end, as you say, I am not getting screwed. I actually come out ahead. We just half the price of the brew supply...

    Red Ale

So I made my first red ale today. The kit was from Brewers Best, really nice get up. Came with Willamete hop pellets I bought some whole hops instead; $2 per oz and I got two oz it was a steal. I can't go wrong. So I started the boil and the temp went a little high, 178 on the steeping, I was...

    ravings of a novice

Making my first red ale. A buddy of mine said he wanted to learn how to make beer and I offered him my literature on Complete Joy of Homebrewing, he declined and said he wanted to pay me to learn. Of course I wanted to say yes but with my somewhat novice skills it would have been wrong of me to...

    First hefeweizen

Me too. Late night posts aren't always accurate. 5 out of 6 is a little better.

    First hefeweizen

Sorry for my delay everyone. I love my hefe. A little over carbonated but it still good. It didn't blow up or ruin. IT has a great banana flavor and spice note. Smooth finish and a little bitter some people said 6 out of 5 people like it so I will take that.

    priming

Okay I have brewers best conditioning tablets. I have 22 oz beer. I want a good head on my hefeweizen and can't track down corn sugar( that I am used to) how many of these puppies should I drop in or what alternative to corn sugar can I use? (Apologies if this is hard to read. Writing in my...

    First hefeweizen

Well so far so good. Since I live in TX and it is outrageously got we can't keep it cool enough in the spare room. The brew has been consistent at 77 degrees. I have read and I don't remember for sure but don't higher temps cause more of a fruity flavor or sweet flavor depending in the yeast?

    First hefeweizen

Thank you for the information. I really appreciate it. So I am concerned as I didn't have any hop bags and I just dropped them in to the boil I noticed on the sample (my hydrometer reading) a lot of hop sediment in the bottom. I know during fermentation it will settle at the bottom and siphoning...

    First hefeweizen

Thanks. So temp and time are good. I'm confused on what you mean by add some syrup later. Do you mean add some at first then add the rest after 15 minutes and restart the timer to 60 again? More importantly how long should this one ferment? Does it require secondary fermentation? sorry for so...

    First hefeweizen

Hi all, this is my first post and my first hefeweizen brew. I have made beer in the past but a total of 5 brews total so I am still a new brewer. I just bought the following from my local HB supplier: Wheat Malt Extract - 7lbs German Hallertau hops 2oz(4.4% AAU) American Hefeweizen Ale...
