Lizard Tails, Mike the Headless Chicken, and other diversions

Imma help you out. https://youtube.com/watch?v=TzWi33Z8Nvc On the lizard tail front, It's ATP or some chemical that keeps it moving in response to stimuli. As far as the chicken, they have a gizzard. As I recall, they kept stuffing food down the hole. The gizzard probably took care of...

You know your a beer geek when...

When someone at the local bar points at you and says to someone else: 'Ask him. He knows all about it.'

    Transport shotgun on motorcycle

Somewhat expensive, but I'd suggest a Pelican case. Make some brackets that'd allow you to either bunjee or lock it to the bike, and you're golden.

"Standard" Beers Every Brewery Should Have

Here in California at least, to have 'guest' beers, one has to have a different license. To have said different license, one has to serve food. That adds at least $100K to the cost, and cuts down on room for fermenters. So needless to say, some brewpubs are going to brew something lighter...

    DME or LME for starter?

Multiply your DME requirements by 1.19 to get LME usage. LME to DME is x.84

Finally got my neomexicanus into some decent pots. Might even get a few cones this year. Hopefully they go into the ground before next spring.

Sun Burn, Nutrient Deficiency or Powdery Mildew?

And they still look like powdery mildew.

Sun Burn, Nutrient Deficiency or Powdery Mildew?

To my eye: 1st pic looks like sun scorch. 2nd pic looks like thrips. Looks for almost microscopic white/translucent bugs on the underside of the leaves. 3rd and 4th pics look like... wait for it... powdery mildew. Time for a fungicide.

    Why no love for bleach?

My saved micronotes from said podcast: 1oz bleach to 5 gal water, then 1oz white vinegar. 30 seconds contact time No rinsing required

    Are these hops?

Looking at the nodes and what appear to be runners, I'm voting for wild strawberry.

    The "Dear" , "Sincerely" thread

Dear At&T, Thank you for your amazing customer service, taking a mere 4 weeks to get a cell phone we could have acquired through say.... Best Buy on one day. 4 weeks ago, we ordered a second phone for our new business. After two weeks, I convinced the business owner to call, and ask about the...

    Using Hibiscus/rose of Sharon

While Rose of Sharon is a type of hibiscus, I'm pretty sure it's not got the type of flavors one expects from the tropical hibiscus. I'd suggest one hit up a Mexican grocery store, and get the dried hibiscus they use for Jamaica. Just my

Welp, guess I'll have to stop in this weekend and see what they have. Thanks for the tip.

If humidity rises and I want maximum efficiency with an evaporative cooler...

Swamp coolers, rely on evaporative cooling by running water over a screen and pulling air through it. Air conditioning, uses expansion and compression of a gas. Not the same things. As for your actual question Cannman, I never figured that out. We folded, turned the wretched thing off years...

Pro Brewery equipment research, help needed

So here's a fun (not) little 'gotcha' to watch out for: Make sure the lease agreement states that the building owner will furnish current or at least the original plans for the building. The building we decided on is only 10 years old, but the owners (a giant commercial development...

From the corner I sit in: You can't beat good automation. We are buying an expensive system, but it will save in the long run due to time and employee number savings. Due to efficiency, we will also save on gas/electricity, as well as grain and hops. If you have to start with a small system...

    Books on growing hops?

Great Lakes Hops has quite a few docs available. Hard to winnow through, but some good stuff for the gleaning.

Pro Brewery equipment research, help needed

This is a massively, hugely, open-ended question. Are you going to quit your job and run this full time, or are you going to try to "it's my second job" it? How many barrels a year are you going to be able to make (and sell)? How big a system can you afford? The bigger the system, the less you...
