If humidity rises and I want maximum efficiency with an evaporative cooler, would it be best to:

1) Close all ceiling vents and only allow for venting from low sources

2) Open all ceiling vents an close low sources to promote circulation

3) Open all vents high and low, its hot!

Thanks!

You say it's hot - is your AC maintaining temperature? Normally, when the AC is doing its thing, humidity is controlled. Humidity gets high if outside temperature is just right, so no AC or heat is needed, and if outside humidity is high. Or if the AC is way oversized so it doesn't run long at a time. As far as vents, it's normally not a good idea to close many because it restricts air flow. That can be bad on the fan bearings and shorten the life.

Swamp coolers, rely on evaporative cooling by running water over a screen and pulling air through it. Air conditioning, uses expansion and compression of a gas. Not the same things.

As for your actual question Cannman, I never figured that out. We folded, turned the wretched thing off years ago, and put a couple of window AC units in. Much happier, even at 80F these days, due to the low humidity. :D

Thanks. I can't figure it out either. Today I closed all unoccupied room doors, opened all the windows in the house and took a nap two rooms away. When I woke up 30 minutes later, I was freezing!
