Good to be back on the horse again....

Welcome back, I was also out for the past 2 years! Got 10 gallons in the fermenters and more brew days on the horizon!

Another bitter and sour beer, not in a good way

I recently took apart my ball valve and was amazed at what can get in there. Not sure what style you have but if you can fully disassemble it and scrub the gunk out it might be a source.

Fermenting Temps went high last night

Swamp coolers are under 70 but the temp on the beer remains the same. No air lock activity or very slight. Only time will tell I suppose. I’ll get it in the fermentation chamber just as soon as I can. Thanks guys!

Fermenting Temps went high last night

Hey Guys, Quick question as I know it is always asked but... my basement de-humidifier went south last night and the basement got a little warm (upper 70's). I had two batches of IPA, one with WLP-01 and one with SF-05. The WLP had been going since Sat, and the 05 was pitched Monday. I couldn't...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Finally back on the brew train, 11 gallons this weekend, happily bubbling away. Fermentation chamber to be set up this week!

First time brewing in 2 years... what am I missing?

Thanks guys, the wife likes the $16.99 4 packs so when I spent $90 on ingredients for 15 gallons she was cool with it. Just the time is usually what makes her cranky since she has to watch the kids. I replaced all my tubing yesterday with some simple stuff but planning on getting a pump and...

First time brewing in 2 years... what am I missing?

Good Morning All, Unfortunately the last two years have been filled with kids, moving, job switches and everything in between and thus my brewing went to the back burner. Well I finally convinced my better half that I need to brew again to save money on beer (and surprisingly she was like...

First Biab brew day, didnt go as planned

I always have two thermometers just in case, a digital one that goes into the pot during the mash and an analog one that comes out when I put the lid on for the mash since I don't have a thermowell in my pot. Since Temp control is usually the hard part I like to keep myself as informed as...

    Quick Question on Yeast Starter

Couldn't find answer through forum search so hopefully someone can chime in quickly... Can you make a starter from dry yeast? I assume the answer is yes and I should do it the same way I have been for liquid yeast correct? I have seen some varying responses on other sites and was hoping the...

    First Bottle Bombs!

FG was supposed to be 1.012 I think but never reached it after 3 weeks with multiple attempts to get it lower. Thinking the bottles may have been the issue more than anything but I will verify when I crack open one of the others in a bit. Pic of the lid, which wasn't on tight (at least when I...

    First Bottle Bombs!

Possibly, this beer didn't finish too well (1.019 I think) so I am sure it had some issues. It was a Caribou Slobber Clone BIAB. I bottled this and a Sierra Nevada Celebration clone the same night and those are still intact (for now) they have been moved to a colder location and will be popped...

    First Bottle Bombs!

After well over a dozen batches I finally had some bottle bombs... Used coopers carb drops in the recommended dosage. These were the left over beer from filling the keg so that might be part of the problem... Any suggestions when bottling the remnants of the beer after kegging? Of note, they...

Need some help now with wiring!

Just went to look at it a second time, it is riveted shut and the wires can be pulled out (they have female blade type connectors on them). My main problem was one of the connectors in the box was loose but I got it tight now and it seems to be fine. Still going to re-wire the rest of it after...

Need some help now with wiring!

So now that I have the pulley's figured out and mounted up I am getting ready to redo the wiring on the old AC motor (not sure how old but at least 15 years!) Anyways, the wiring on this motor is somewhat interesting as it is basically a plug in to start it (with a toggle switch mounted inline)...

Need a little help with the method

Agree with how much grain you will use for the recipe. I have done grain bills of 16lbs in my 10 Gal kettle for a 5.5 gallon recipe (very close to overflowing though!) I just did a 15 lb grain bill a week ago and had no issues at all, although with more experience I do tend to go a little under...

    Where to find Pulleys?

I have been doing a lot of reading on here as of late trying to figure out how to connect a 1725 RPM AC motor to my Barley Crusher and the one thing I haven't been able to locate is where to find the right pulley for this mill? I believe the shaft is 3/8" but I can't find a pulley with that ID...

    Imperial Stout Carb Problems

I will try that out, thanks! If the ABV is too high, is there any hope or should I do something different next time??

    Imperial Stout Carb Problems

Is there a trick to getting an imperial stout to carb up in the bottle? I used the sugar calc for a regular stout but I think that may have been my problem. The beer tastes wonderful, not too sweet at all so I am wondering if time is the only thing that might help? I made a 3 gallon batch...
