Ale fermentation complete, why is it bubbling again?

Yesterday, 3 weeks after pitch, I put my 6 gal carboy with IPA in the kegerator. I have the temperature set at 48˚ and now the airlock is bubbling like it does 36 hours after pitching yeast. I intended to turn the temp down to cold crash after I had a couple beers this weekend. What's...

Ale fermentation complete, why is it bubbling again?

Yesterday, 3 weeks after brew day I put my 6 gal carboy with IPA in the kegerator next to a keg. I have the temperature set at 48˚ and now the airlock is bubbling like it does 36 hours after pitching yeast. I intended to turn the temp down but I wanted to have a couple beers this weekend...

Where to plant? Rhizomes or Crowns?

Thanks alot! How close did you have the cilantro? And how densely did you have them packed together? With the limited space I'm utilizing I'm imagining tending to the hops during the season and having to fight off wasps because of how close they will be to the hops. Thanks Cram!

Where to plant? Rhizomes or Crowns?

I'm waiting on 6 cilantro and 7 marigold seeds to germinate in my mini Jiffy greenhouse. A gardner I showed a house to today confirmed that marigolds are good at attracting ladybugs. One of the best ways to attract ladybugs is to have a decoy plant. The job of that decoy is to attract aphids and...

Where to plant? Rhizomes or Crowns?

Cilantro and chives are supposed to attract "beneficial insects" such as ladybugs. I'm scouring Google building a list of plants that attract these beneficial insects because they are predators that prey on aphids and spidermites. This year I'm going to put a bunch of flowers and herbs near my...

Where to plant? Rhizomes or Crowns?

Stevo, The hours you are quoting for the sunlight, are they the current winter/spring hours? If so summer will be a completely different story with longer hours and the sun will be high in the sky between 11am and 4 pm. Last year I took some pictures to document what angle the sun was...

Where to plant? Rhizomes or Crowns?

Amen to that Cram! Cedar boxes made from fence planks are the way to go. My first year/last year I did a 3' x 18" x1 ft deep box for my 2 Cascades. I didn't have a choice for size because of a tiny back yard and HOA. This year I realized it didn't matter to the HOA and I went ahead and made this...

Where to plant? Rhizomes or Crowns?

Stevo, your plans sound good indeed. I live in the Charlotte NC area and I was wondering if our last summer sun was as blistering as yours since we are in the same region. Quick bullet points since my post is long-ish: -Even with good watering too much of our hot south sun can do some...

Hops are growing already, is that bad?

You definitely can. I have 2 Cascades that were propagated from last years bines and just last night I discovered 1 of my 4 propagated Northern Brewers is alive; which is amazing because this one seemed to be the least likely to succeed! The Picture I included has the 2 trowels on the left...

Hops are growing already, is that bad?

That was a great question I've been meaning to ask. Mr/Mrs GreatLakesHops, the crowns you sent me in January are fantastic. They came with shoots already growing, which was exciting to me because my planting area looks better with some signs of life! My questions for anyone are: -1. I live...

    Simple syrup for a starter?

I've used Malta Goya and it works great and is very inexpensive. You can do a search for it here and see that a lot of people have done it!

Milk Stout, grain to glass in 25 days?

Because of the dark roasted malts in stouts I'm also guessing you will be fine. With time the taste will no doubt mature. Eat it with S'mores and everyone will think you are a beer guru! I'm going camping this weekend with a Great Divide imperial stout clone. It was in the primary for 3...

    Broken Fermentation Tank/Oxidized Wort

Thanks guys! I'm not worrying too much, only trying to gain insight! Any thoughts about sugar causing the yeasties to feast and fart the o2 out of the beer and airlock?

    Broken Fermentation Tank/Oxidized Wort

Several weeks ago I noticed a small leak from the spout of my fermentation bucket. As soon as I put my hand on it to inspect it the spigot broke an My Precious was pouring all over the floor! I yelled to my wife for help and we hobbled it to the kitchen to figure something out. I felt like the...

No Yeast, yet beer is fermenting

If you leave a glass of water sitting out overnight you will probably notice bubbles forming on the side as it will be aerated from the faucet, like your wort will be aerated from transferring it into your carboy or bucket. Is it possible that this is what you saw, or did you see bubbles...

How many gallons of EdWort's Haus Pale Ale have been made?

6 gallons being dry-hopped. When I took the FG measurement I chilled it and it tasted fantastic after only 13 days from Boil! 4049

    Maximizing Efficiency when Batch Sparging

That's great to know Denny, thanks! One more thing. When I did this batch I was pretty fed up with my mash tun not keeping the temperature where I wanted so I mashed in a pot in the oven. I doughed in, did a protein rest for the heck of it and then brought it up to 153˚. My oven's lowest...

    Maximizing Efficiency when Batch Sparging

One issue I have had with my fly sparge process is when I try to mash-out my 150˚grain bed with 185˚ water I can never get it up to 170˚. I read a post recently that inspired me to just stop worrying and add boiling water. Which I figured was ok if I quickly stirred it into the...
